We are looking for a skilled Compliance Rule Tuning Specialist to join our Transaction Monitoring team. This role centers on tuning and optimizing compliance rules that detect suspicious activities, ensuring they are accurate, efficient, and aligned with regulatory expectations. The ideal candidate will have strong SQL abilities, practical compliance knowledge, and experience building and refining transaction monitoring rules. They should have the expertise and communication skills to effectively challenge and persuade senior stakeholders, including MLROs, ensuring that compliance rules are both practical and operationally effective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, refine, and optimize SQL-based transaction monitoring rules to detect suspicious or high-risk activities.
- Design and build data tables and components that support robust rule frameworks, ensuring scalability and clarity.
- Analyze alerts generated by rules to tune thresholds, reduce false positives, and maximize detection accuracy.
- Collaborate with MLROs, compliance officers, and risk teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective, feasible monitoring rules.
- Provide constructive feedback and persuasively engage senior stakeholders when rules or concepts proposed by MLROs are impractical or counterproductive.
- Document rule logic, data sources, and tuning methodologies clearly to ensure audit readiness and facilitate team understanding.
- Continuously monitor the performance of rule sets and adjust them to address emerging risks or regulatory changes.
- Support ad hoc queries and reporting through advanced SQL scripting related to compliance investigations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Strong proficiency in SQL with proven experience building complex queries and managing data structures.
- Solid working knowledge of AML regulations, transaction monitoring concepts, and compliance requirements within crypto or financial services sectors.
- Hands-on experience designing and tuning rule-based transaction monitoring systems, focusing on accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Ability to confidently and diplomatically challenge and persuade senior stakeholders, including MLROs, to ensure rules are both compliant and operationally viable.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in fintech, crypto compliance, or financial services compliance environments is a strong advantage.
