MISO develops technology that elevates human lives in the commercial kitchen.

We’re engineering production-ready robotic systems that tightly integrate perception, real-time decision making, and electromechanical controls to automate the most dangerous, least desirable tasks in food preparation. That means building software that understands the physical world as it actually behaves, and hardware that can execute precisely in the face of chaos. Success is measured in uptime, throughput, and trust from our customers, not demos.

Our flagship platform, Flippy, is already operating in high-volume restaurant kitchens across seven states. Zippy, our Kitchen Intelligence software centralizes all operational data in our broader ecosystem, expanding the role of AI enabled autonomy in real-world operations. Backed by industry leaders, including Ecolab (NYSE: ECL), Miso combines the stability of a proven commercial product with the technical depth and ambition of a company passionately innovating to solve foundational problems in robotics and restaurant operations.

If you’re excited by hard constraints, real customers, and the challenge of making software and machines perform reliably where failure isn’t an option, you’ll find meaningful problems to work on here.

The Role
As a Robotics Systems Engineer at Miso Robotics, you will work hands-on with the Flippy
kitchen robot to build, test, troubleshoot, and improve robotic systems used in commercial
kitchens. This is a highly practical engineering role combining robotics systems integration,
lab and assembly work, physical testing, software/QA automation, and field support.
You will work closely with robotics, mechanical, electrical, software, perception, and product
engineers to integrate new hardware and software, execute system-level tests, diagnose
failures, and help move Flippy from engineering development through production and
deployment.
This position requires someone who is comfortable working both at a computer and directly
on the robot—assembling components, running experiments, reproducing failures, collecting
data, writing automated tests, and supporting robots operating in customer environments.
This is an on-site position in Pasadena, California, five days per week.

What You'll Do
  • Build, configure, test, and troubleshoot Flippy robotic systems, including mechanical, electrical, sensor, and software components.

  • Develop and execute system-level verification, validation, regression, and reliability tests for new hardware and software releases.

  • Build automated testing tools and scripts using Python to improve test coverage, efficiency, and repeatability.

  • Diagnose complex hardware and software failures, analyze system data, and collaborate with engineering teams to identify root causes and validate fixes.

  • Support prototype development, system integration, and occasional customer deployments to improve robot reliability and real-world performance.

What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with robotics, automation, electromechanical systems, or similarly complex integrated hardware/software products.

  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, with demonstrated experience assembling, testing, debugging, and repairing physical systems.

  • Working proficiency in Python for test automation, diagnostics, or engineering applications.

  • Experience with system-level testing, hardware/software integration, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.

  • Degree in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Must be able to work on-site in Pasadena, CA, five days per week.

Desired Multipliers
  • Experience with robotic arms, industrial automation, or deployed robotic systems.

  • Familiarity with Linux, ROS/ROS2, and robotics middleware.

  • Experience developing hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, automated test frameworks, or CI/CD integrations.

  • Background in robotics startups, engineering labs, or fast-paced hardware development environments.

Compensation
$110,000–$140,000 per year + Benefits

The stated compensation range reflects the targeted base salary range for candidates residing in the Los Angeles Metro area and does not include additional compensation or benefits. If your salary requirements fall outside this range, we still encourage you to apply.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
