Risk Manager

Vast is looking for a Risk Manager, reporting to the Vice President, Flight Safety & Mission Assurance, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. As a Risk Manager within the Flight Safety and Mission Assurance organization at Vast, you will help pave the way for safe, reliable, and repeatable access to space. You will work in a fast-paced engineering environment, engaging with engineers to identify, manage, and reduce risk, and ultimately increase the probability of mission success. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach, CA location. 

Responsibilities: 

• Develop and implement a risk process across the organization
• Assess and communicate technical risks to executive leadership and external stakeholders
• Ensure risk process achieves outcome of increasing probability of mission success while documenting risk informed decisions
• Prioritize actions to burn down highest risks and maintain an acceptable risk posture going into major tests and operations
• Assess risk landscape for identification of potential trends and recommend corrective actions
• Take ownership of the development of risk management tools to help it better serve our teams
• Mentor our engineering organization on best practices for risk identification and management

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, mathematics, physics, or related technical discipline
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical circuit diagrams
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical partners
• Ability to form relationships with experts from varying engineering fields and provide constructive feedback

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience throughout the engineering lifecycle (design, build, operations, sustainment, and decommission)
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, particularly in the context of spaceflight applications

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to travel <10% of the time
• Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
• Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted

Pay Range: 

• Risk Manager: $135,800 - $176,400
