We're Proof, a high-growth startup in the legal tech industry, founded in 2017. We offer a best-in-class legal services platform used by thousands of law firms and property management companies. Our platform enables law firms and collections parties to access efficient, transparent, and accessible legal and document delivery services, traditionally out of reach. We are on a path to double our business this year and are building a team to help us scale rapidly.

We welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are eager to help build a future where legal services are readily accessible, affordable, and efficient. If you have curiosity, passion, and a collaborative spirit to drive change in an outdated industry, we want you on our team.

About the Role:

As a Risk & Compliance Specialist, you’ll review cases, gather evidence, take enforcement action, and keep compliance records accurate. You’ll also communicate with Proof’s users and support other teams across the company.

You’ll follow documented procedures to handle standard cases on your own, document your work thoroughly, and escalate unusual or high-stakes situations. Success in this role means resolving risks quickly, producing accurate, well-documented cases, and applying compliance rules consistently, even at high volume.

What You'll Do:

Investigations & Risk
  • Review incoming cases, decide which need attention first, and take action based on the type of case and the evidence.
  • Gather and document evidence; call, text, or email as needed to gather context and discuss irregularities or recurring patterns.
  • Follow documented procedures to handle standard cases independently, and escalate unusual, unclear, or high-stakes situations.
  • Keep a closer eye on accounts under review: follow up on open cases and record new findings on a regular cadence.
  • Execute compliance actions and assess coverage impact; alert cross-functional stakeholders as needed.
  • Handle escalation calls disputing investigation outcomes; communicate resolution actions clearly and professionally.
Signal Detection & Monitoring
  • Monitor and action daily alerts and signals indicating anomalies.
  • Surface pattern observations within cases and server behavior; escalate larger or recurring trends.
Compliance
  • Process identity document submissions for new applicants and document renewals; ensure documentation is complete and meets eligibility requirements.
  • Support weekly compliance document maintenance: action expired documents and send compliance outreach communications.
  • Support ad hoc internal requests and compliance-related projects.
Server Communications & Enablement
  • Handle inbound account update communications and outbound compliance outreach with contractors.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of external-facing Help Center articles, ensuring content accurately reflects current processes and requirements.
Data, Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Track personal performance metrics.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within the Marketplace Supply organization; participate in Product meetings and submit feature requests as needed.
  • Contribute to team process improvement efforts; surface observations and suggestions that support consistency and scalability.
  • Assist with account setup, compliance document collection, and activation processing.
  • Provide ad hoc support and contribute to marketplace projects as needed.

What You'll Bring:

  • 2-3 years of experience in risk and compliance, trust and safety, operations, or contractor management, preferably within a two-sided marketplace or technology platform.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct structured case reviews, including triage, evidence gathering, clear documentation, and sound enforcement judgment, while following established frameworks and playbooks.
  • Familiarity with compliance documentation, credentialing, and eligibility workflows; ability to apply rules consistently across varied cases.
  • Comfortable with data and business intelligence tools (SQL proficiency is a plus); experience tracking and owning personal performance metrics.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of cases across multiple case types simultaneously while maintaining thoroughness and quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting clear, professional user-facing communications and handling server escalation calls; experience with independent contractor communications preferred.
  • A collaborative, proactive mindset with a genuine interest in platform integrity, compliance, and operational excellence.

Compensation

  • Salary range $53,000 - $55,000 based on experience and location

Benefits

  • Full time, remote, salary position
  • Medical, dental, vision, disability insurance, and 401k available
  • Phone and Internet monthly stipend
  • Flexible time off (paid planned and sick time, and paid holidays)
  • Necessary equipment provided

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
