We are seeking a Senior Failure Analysis & Customer Quality Engineer to own the Failure Analysis (FA) Lab at our Irvine site. This role is responsible for investigating customer-returned products, performing hands-on RF testing and failure analysis, identifying root causes, and working closely with global engineering teams to drive corrective actions. The ideal candidate will also serve as the primary technical contact for customers during the failure analysis process and ensure timely, high-quality FA reports.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Own and manage the Failure Analysis (FA) Lab and customer-returned product investigations.
    • Perform hands-on RF testing and module-level failure analysis using production test equipment.
    • Execute Tx/Rx RF test suites, firmware flashing, and validation testing to reproduce and verify failures.
    • Conduct systematic failure triage, classify failure modes, and document findings.
    • Isolate faults at the module, PCB, or component level to determine root cause.

    • Serve as the primary technical contact for customer failure analysis cases and provide regular investigation updates.
    • Collaborate with Design, Systems, Firmware, Hardware, Radio, and Validation teams to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • Maintain complete investigation records, test results, and technical documentation in Jira and Confluence.
    • Track corrective actions through closure and support continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Review reliability and qualification data and support supplier/OSAT quality activities when required.

    Required Skills & Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in Failure Analysis, Product Engineering, Quality Engineering, or RF Test Engineering within the semiconductor or wireless industry.
    • Hands-on experience with RF production testing using LitePoint IQxel or equivalent RF test equipment.
    • Experience performing module-level failure analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations.
    • Knowledge of RF measurements such as Tx Power, EVM, PER, SEM, frequency error, and receiver sensitivity.
    • Experience flashing firmware and executing validation or regression testing.
    • Strong understanding of semiconductor products, PCB-level troubleshooting, and electronic test equipment.
    • Experience using Jira and Confluence for investigation tracking and technical documentation.
    • Excellent technical report writing and customer communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with global cross-functional engineering teams.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi HaLow (IEEE 802.11ah), or other wireless communication technologies.
    • Familiarity with Manufacturing Test Frameworks (MFT) or automated production test environments.
    • Understanding of JEDEC reliability standards and qualification testing.
    • Experience working with OSATs, contract manufacturers, or supplier quality.
    • Experience in a fabless semiconductor company is highly desirable.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

    • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
    • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
    • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
    • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
    • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
    • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
