Intro and job overview: 

The Revenue Accounting Manager-Business Advisory will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the revenue recognition process, for revenue contracts, in compliance with US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), ASC 606 and Precisely’s internal policies and controls. The individual will work closely with various internal teams, including FP&A, Sales, Legal, GL Accounting and Deal Desk to ensure proper revenue recognition for Precisely’s products sold under varied licensing models. The individual in this role reports to the Director, Revenue Accounting.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Manage and oversee the revenue recognition process for revenue contracts to ensure all revenue is recognized in compliance with US GAAP and company policies.
  • Analyze and interpret complex contracts, such as those for perpetual software, SaaS, term based software, and professional services to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatments under ASC 606 and Precisely's revenue policies.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Legal, and other departments to resolve revenue recognition issues and ensure all terms and conditions are accurately reflected in financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, and Finance teams to gather information for accurate revenue recognition. Support complex revenue areas with contractual terms and deal structures. Provide workpapers, adhoc analysis, and inputs to the FPA process. Address revenue-related inquiries from other departments and assist external auditors during audits.
  • Review and validate revenue recognition entries, primarily related to revenue contracts, in Precisely's financial system (NetSuite ARM) for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and review revenue-related reports and power point presentations for large and complex contracts
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on revenue recognition requirements and best practices.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and process improvements related to revenue recognition.
  • Manage a team of revenue accountants, offering guidance and support in their daily activities. Conduct performance reviews and encourage professional development within the team.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in revenue accounting including software moving from perpetual licensing to subscription, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Solid understanding of revenue recognition principles and accounting standards (ASC 606). Public accounting auditing experience required.
  • Team Leadership: Proven experience in leading and managing a team of revenue accountants. Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a focus on team development.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using accounting software and ERP systems, Netsuite ARM a plus. Familiarity with automated revenue recognition tools is a plus. Alteryx, and advanced Excel skills required.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and analyze revenue contracts and transactions for accuracy. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Ability to convey financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Process Improvement: Experience in identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing changes for increased efficiency. Familiarity with best practices in revenue accounting and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of accounting regulations and a commitment to ensuring compliance within the revenue accounting function.
