Overview
We are seeking a Revenue Accounting Consultant to provide hands-on support for a natural gas company’s revenue accounting operation. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is deeply familiar with ASC 606, and has strong revenue recognition workflow experience in the natural gas sector. This role supports core revenue activities including journal entries, system configuration reviews, midstream settlement tracking, and close-cycle reconciliation. Candidates must have a "roll-up-your-sleeves" mentality, technical accounting experience, and a collaborative mindset. This is a remote consulting contract role working predominately MST and CST time zones.
Responsibilities
- Execute and support monthly revenue accounting close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and revenue variance analysis
- Assist in the administration of the monthly Revenue Distribution process
- Translate commercial contract terms into accounting workflows and system configurations
- Support the preparation and review of revenue settlements for natural gas sales and transportation activities
- Track midstream costs and ensure contractual compliance in settlements and billing
- Help maintain revenue recognition processes in ERP and ETRM systems (e.g., Quorum, Allegro, Enertia, Oracle, SAP PRA)
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (ASC 606), internal controls (SOX), and FERC or other regulatory requirements
- Assist with audit documentation, fluctuation analysis, and detailed stakeholder inquiries
- Partner with commercial, marketing, and operations teams to validate volumes and pricing data for accuracy
- Support the creation or improvement of revenue-related modules, tools, and templates for reporting efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with 2+ years in revenue accounting within the natural gas/energy industry
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, especially ASC 606 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers
- Familiarity with ETRM systems (Quorum, Allegro, SAP PRA) and general ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, Enertia)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Growth mindset and resilience in dynamic environments
- Ability to create basic digital tools to enhance accounting operations
- Some travel may be required (less than 10%)
