Summary:

The role is well-suited for candidates currently supporting central sponsored programs, research finance, or grants management offices who are experienced in managing institution-wide research portfolios and partnering with investigators, departments, and compliance teams.

The Research Financial Analyst II provides comprehensive financial support to the Senior Director of Research Operations. Key responsibilities include managing Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) financial activities to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient preparation of general ledger entries, account reconciliations, budget-to-actual analyses, and financial statements. The role also encompasses award setup in the financial system, invoicing and accounts receivable (A/R) management to maintain accurate billing and ensure timely collection of payments. Additionally, this position focuses on internal financial operations and reporting, provides guidance and training to office staff on financial reporting and leverages expertise in Baystate Medical Center (BMC) financial systems, such as Lawson, along with other relevant databases and applications.

Job Requirements:

•            Assists in compiling financial information for analysis and review. Prepares basic financial reports using Lawson general ledger activity and other system applications. Formats data in a user-friendly manner for internal review.

•            Supports accurate and timely administration of costs charged to appropriate cost centers. Works with SPA to help create new activities and close expired ones. Processes routine journal entries and assists with effort reporting under supervision.

•            Provides support for award setup in Lawson by gathering necessary documentation and coordinating with SPA.

•            Prepares draft financial reports for review by senior staff. Assists in analyzing invoices and financial statements for federal and non-federal awards.

•            Assists with preparation and delivery of a bi-monthly deficit report for scheduled leadership meetings.

•            Maintains awareness of sponsor regulations and institutional policies. Applies guidance from senior staff to daily tasks to minimize compliance risk.

•            Works closely with Finance, SPA, and other departments to process journal entries, budget adjustments, and activity closeouts. Ensures timelines for account cycles and sponsor milestones are met with support from senior analysts.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field).

Required Expereince:

1–3 years of related work experience required.

Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office.

Previous research finance or grant management experience

Preferred Expereince:
Experience in accounting or financial operations.

Experience with sponsored programs and Lawson application

Skills/Competences:

•            Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of accounting principles, sponsored program regulations, and compliance requirements.

•            Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Lawson financial systems, Excel, and reporting tools.

•            Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.

Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
