Power, Natural Gas, Coal and Carbon Research (previously Point Carbon, Thomson Reuters, Refinitiv), part of Commodity Research at LSEG, has a strong footprint in the commodity community. We have been in the business of Renewables, Power and Carbon markets since 1998. Oslo is our biggest location for Power and Carbon Research; however, Commodity Research is comprised of analysts located in London, Houston, Chicago, Singapore, Beijing, Gdynia, Tokyo, Lund and Sao Paulo.
Energy transition and zero emission policies increase the demand for our services in trading analytics and sustainable finance, and we are now expanding our team in Oslo.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Power markets are evolving fast, with considerable implications coming from the rapid integration of variable renewable sources and the decarbonization of the energy system. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and quantitative skills and will be able to analyze, explain and model the power market behavior at different resolutions. The analyst will have high attention to detail, possess excellent communication skills, and be self-motivated, inquisitive, resourceful, and independent.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze European and Nordic power markets at different resolutions (balancing / intraday / short and medium term).
- Develop and improve quantitative models, including data handling and data processing. This includes modeling and forecasting renewables using existing and new weather forecasts.
- Improve and maintain power demand assumptions, with particular focus on new sources of demand (data centers, AI, EV, decarbonization of heat,...) and modelling of demand flexibility
- Write analysis and reports to support traders and market participants.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Higher education (MSc or PhD level) in economics, industrial mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics/meteorology or equivalent.
- Good proficiency in data analysis and predictive modelling.
- Strong knowledge in computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R)
- Good understanding of power markets.
- Solid background in statistics and machine learning techniques.
- Good communication skills for effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
