Your Role:

As a Reinsurance Consultant, you will be responsible for providing specialized expertise and support in the field of reinsurance. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, reinsurance brokers, and external reinsurance partners to assess risk exposure, develop reinsurance strategies, and ensure effective risk transfer. You will analyze insurance portfolios, support negotiation of reinsurance contracts, and monitor reinsurance contract and reinsurer performance.

Your Work:

  • Manage ceded (outbound) and assumed (inbound) reinsurance programs and life reinsurance programs to support business operations, providing protection and taking calculated risks, with the goal of developing a sustainable long-term reinsurance capital structure while pursuing attractive revenue and profit opportunities.

  • Provide expertise and influence to drive property catastrophe risk assessment, models, mitigation, and management.

  • Lead reinsurance contract review, evaluation of risk, placement of reinsurance and claims management.

Required Experience, Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in Reinsurance, Actuarial, Catastrophe Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, and/or Financial Risk Management.

  • Excellent communication (oral, written), organizational, and project management skills.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Learning agility and change resilience.

  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designations.

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designations.

  • Advanced understanding of CSAA IG business strategy.

  • Experience working with product, financial, and/or operational measures and models, business planning, cost-benefit analysis, and senior-level analysis as they apply to business unit and CSAA IG.

  • Expertise in interpretation of reinsurance contracts.

  • Experience with natural catastrophe and capital models.

  • Ability to navigate source data to provide clarity and insight into business behaviors.

  • Strong mathematical skills.

  • Accounting for insurance transactions.

  • Familiarity with finance principles.

  • Actively shapes our company culture (e.g., participating in employee resource groups, volunteering, etc.).

  • Lives into cultural norms (e.g., willing to have cameras when it matters: helping onboard new team members, building relationships, etc.).  

  • Travels as needed for role, including divisional / team meetings and other in-person meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Experience working with operational / product / financial measures and models, business planning, cost/benefit analysis, project management and senior level analysis as they apply to business unit and CSAA IG
  • Expertise in interpretation of Property, Casualty, Professional Liability and Cyber insurance contracts
  • Ability to navigate source data to provide clarity around system defects and insight into business behaviors
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong knowledge of reinsurance principles, contract structures, and risk transfer mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards related to reinsurance.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with external reinsurers and brokers

Preferred

  • Advanced understanding of CSAA IG business strategy
  • Comprehensive understanding of the use and development of operational models and other related reporting software
  • Expert in risk modeling and assessment
  • Broad actuarial skillset with deep understanding of pricing, reserving, ERM, statutory accounting, and risk and return concepts
Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related areas
  • 5 years’ experience in either Actuarial, Catastrophe Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Financial Risk Management

Preferred:

  • MBA

Certification in:
