The Juniper Re Graduate Hire Program provides an exciting, unique, and accelerated foundation to your career in reinsurance.  Our rapid expansion will provide exceptional, challenging, and rewarding opportunities to grow individually and as part of a team.  Our program provides a combination of structured learning sessions and on-the-job training, including rotations through Client Services, Actuarial, and Catastrophe Analytics, affording a broad and deep base of understanding of our business.

Graduate Hires are placed into specific disciplines (e.g., Broking, Actuarial, Cat Analytics, etc.) and undergo a 24-month training period involving 4-6 modules combined with immersions, interim assignments, lunch and learns, and on-the-job learning.  During our 24-month program, Graduate Hires will also obtain a (re)insurance broking license and the Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation with materials and exams covered by Juniper Re.

The ideal candidate will have work and/or community volunteering experience (not required to be specific to the (re)insurance industry, although may be considered a plus).  The program is open to all majors.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the reinsurance placement process and provide support to respective teams, including: the collection, cleansing, analysis, and application of data; topical research; executing essential tasks; and updating team members on placement progress / issues.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of reinsurance agreements (contracts) and assist with broker review on contract documentation. Ensure terms accurately reflect the intended placement program structure and ensure the timely production of and follow-up on contract documentation.
  • Develop robust understanding of accounting and claims administration, including premium calculations, invoicing, payment processing, claims reporting, and loss collections.  Work with Client Services to monitor and assist in responding to client queries and concerns.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of insurance and reinsurance markets (function, product lines, capacity, etc.) and develop client and reinsurance relationships.
  • Understand and follow all best practice procedures and compliance policies, including, but not limited to, building a complete placement file as the placement progresses to minimize errors & omissions.
  • Develop proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and support the preparation of proposals and presentations.
  • Assist broking team with the scheduling of client visits, production visits, and reinsurer meetings and audits.
  • Assist respective disciplines (Broking, Risk & Compliance, and Client Services) with the coordination of client onboarding, integration, and information transfer.
  • Embody the One Team approach and communicate effectively with all stakeholders and team members.
  • Assume and perform specialized functions and special projects as requested.
  • This position will be hybrid between your home and our office located in Philadelphia, PA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Strong academic experience in field of study
  • Strong verbal, written, and mathematical skills

  • Confident and well-rounded with a diverse set of interests outside of university studies  
  • Detail oriented with an ability to effectively organize and prioritize assignments and execute efficiently
  • Strong interpersonal skills for establishing and developing constructive stakeholder relationships both internally and externally
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt and be flexible to the changing demands of the business
  • Proven communication skills and capable of working in an unstructured, team-oriented environment
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, & PowerPoint capabilities a plus

Designations and Associations

Juniper Re will pay for course materials and exams / certifications for any relevant designations, including Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), etc.
