Job Summary:

As the Midwest Regional Sales Manager in the exciting world of Science/R&D, you will act as the critical liaison between customers and FLIR to ensure that a technical solution is rapidly identified, demonstrated, and quoted. Engineers and Scientists at the forefront of their fields will turn to you to help them solve interesting problems that can only be addressed with high performance infrared systems. To be successful in this position, you will need to have experience or interest/aptitude in remote sensing, electronic test and data acquisition applications, developing proficiency with FLIR Science/R&D products, and possess an inherent drive to own your territory – including knowledge and ability to apply territory planning and analysis techniques to develop and grow your sales pipeline. This position requires the ability to regularly travel throughout the territory to meet customers, interpret the customer requirements, identify the appropriate system configurations to meet those requirements, and the ability to demonstrate the system onsite.

Your Contribution:

Ideal candidate has a strong background in technical field sales, has been successful in managing and growing a US regional territory, desires autonomy, and is located in either Detroit, MI, or Cincinnati, OH (other locations in the Midwest are open for discussion). This role will be responsible for the Midwest territory at FLIR, which includes OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MO, IA, MN, ND, SD.

Your Job in Plain Text:

  • Sales Target: Responsible for meeting/exceeding a defined sales target for the Midwest territory and working with the N. America team to meet/exceed regional targets
  • Planning and Execution: Develop and implement sales plan and growth strategy for sustainable and scalable success within the region
    • Schedule travel to support customer visits and field events, representing FLIR as the expert in thermography and IR data imagery for R&D/Science
    • Prospect for new sales opportunities, cultivate sales leads, qualify customer opportunities, and schedule customer site visits for technical product demonstrations
    • Manage opportunity pipeline in CRM for continuous progress and accuracy
    • Identify and develop relationships with key contacts at Commercial, University, and Defense-related research sites
    • Develop a thorough understanding of the market and competition in the Midwest territory
  • Expertise: Familiarization and development of expertise with IR theory and FLIR products
    • Bring your experience in remote sensing, data acquisition and/or test and measurement to communicate how infrared systems function and how they will meet customer application requirements
    • Bring your experience with successful sales tools and techniques for efficient territory management, customer support/engagement, and opportunity development
  • Collaboration: Capture market and key application information, document, and share with the broader team (Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Product Management, etc.).
    • Support roadmap development with new product features and capabilities for a better customer experience
    • Identify/Support trade shows and other field events to promote FLIR products in target vertical markets
    • Provide insight to sales/cross-functionally to ensure we get the best ROI in everything we do

To be ready to take on this role, we would love it if you have:  

  • 5+ years in technical field sales (preferred: data acquisition, test & measurement, or technology space)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science with a business/marketing aptitude or Bachelor’s in Business with work experience in technical field sales
  • Strong interest and excitement in promoting and demonstrating technology products
  • Demonstrated record of managing a territory and being responsive to quickly deliver on business needs
  • History of influencing customers and marshaling internal resources to efficiently capture and process a PO
  • Ability to identify influencers, budget, timeline, competition, etc to navigate a customer to a final order
  • Technically astute with an ability to acquire extensive product and application knowledge, with an ability to assess and provide solutions for customer challenges/needs
  • Self-motivated/Independent and driven to identify, qualify and pursue new customers and new markets
  • Strong oral and written communications to provide high level customer service and build relationships
  • Organizational skills to anticipate, prioritize, plan, organize to meet and exceed strategic objectives
  • Track record of leading customer facing engagements to generate new demand and ensure territory/region success
  • Demonstrated ability in account/business planning to deliver on revenue goals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, CRM tools,
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time
