The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing jobsite safety programs across multiple commercial construction projects, promoting a proactive culture of health and safety, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and regulatory requirements, conducting site-specific safety planning and training, and partnering closely with project leadership to identify, mitigate, and prevent hazards while supporting teams in delivering high-quality projects safely and efficiently.

Essential Functions and Abilities Required:
  • Lead and manage the companywide safety program across multiple regional offices and active job sites.
  • Establish and lead safety policies, procedures, and standards aligned with company objectives, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Provide visible leadership in the field, supporting project teams, superintendents, and subcontractors to drive sage work practices.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety training programs for employees and trade partners.
  • Conduct and oversee job site safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments; ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries; lead root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
  • Track, analyze, and report safety metrics (TRIR, EMR, DART, etc.) and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, insurance carriers, and external safety consultants
  • Partner with operations, preconstruction, and executive leadership to integrate safety into planning, scheduling, and execution
  • Support with preconstruction and design-build efforts by reviewing safety plans, logistics, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Lead, mentor, and develop safety managers and field safety staff
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture where accountability, communication, and continuous improvement are core values
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles
  • Capable of working in active construction environments, including walking job sites, climbing stairs/ladders, and standing for extended periods of time

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to travel between multiple projects spanning our Orange County, San Diego region (Irvine, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Downtown San Diego, La Jolla and Chula Vista)
  • Knowledge and familiarity with construction processes, practices, and procedures
  • Proven ability to adapt behavior or work methods in response to new information or conditions
  • Experience monitoring work to ensure quality standards and attention to detail
  • Interpersonal Skills: ability to engage with clients, internal team members, and trade contractors in a constructive, productive way to overcome obstacles and achieve results.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, project management software (Procore), and scheduling software (Microsoft Project).
Education / Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering,, or related field (or equivalent experience). or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of safety leadership experience within commercial construction
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and California-specific safety requirements
  • Proven experience managing safety programs across multiple active projects and geographic regions
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels, from field crews to executive leadership
  • Experience with design-build and complex commercial projects preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, or equivalent strongly preferred
  • OSHA 500 certification

Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $90,000 – $160,000 per year.
