The company supports clients in energy transition, infrastructure development, and climate change adaptation. We use the power of Geo-data to unlock the secrets of Earth, from surface to subsurface, natural to built environment. Together with our partners and clients, we’re building a safer and more liveable world.

The Oil and Gas Sales & Business Development Manager of Fugro Americas will be responsible for driving both sales execution and strategic business development within the oil and gas sector across North America, Central America, and South America. This role will focus on expanding Fugro’s market presence in upstream, midstream (LNG plant development), and marine environments, including asset inspection and monitoring.

The role is accountable not only for identifying and nurturing opportunities but also for ensuring high conversion rates from leads to signed contracts. Additionally, this position will play a pivotal role in long-term strategic partnerships, market expansion, and shaping Fugro’s positioning within key client organizations and industry consortia. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in business development, client engagement, commercial execution, and strategic relationship-building within the oil and gas industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy for the Americas, aligning with regional and global objectives.
  • Identify and prioritize high-value market opportunities across upstream, midstream (LNG), and marine asset monitoring segments.
  • Build a structured sales funnel with clear action plans to achieve revenue and market penetration targets.
  • Lead Identification: Proactively engage with key stakeholders within oil and gas operators, EPCs, and marine asset owners to track upcoming projects, including pre-FEED and FEED studies. Maintain close relationships with decision-makers to anticipate service needs.
  • Qualification: Systematically evaluate leads based on technical feasibility, budget allocation, project timelines, and alignment with Fugro’s capabilities. Engage with internal stakeholders to validate technical fit and resource availability.
  • Conversion to Opportunities: Develop compelling value propositions, conduct client presentations, and tailor service offerings to match project requirements. Address client pain points effectively and position Fugro as a preferred partner.
  • Transformation into Orders: Drive deal closure through strategic negotiation, contract finalization, and alignment of commercial terms. Ensure a high conversion rate from opportunity to contract by actively managing the sales cycle and removing obstacles to closing.
  • Develop and nurture strategic, long-term relationships with key oil and gas operators, EPC firms, government entities, and industry consortia across the Americas.
  • Engage early in industry developments, regulatory shifts, and emerging market trends to position Fugro as a thought leader and trusted partner.
  • Identify new market segments and service line expansion opportunities, including entry strategies for emerging regions within the Americas.
  • Drive early engagement in pre-FID stages of major energy projects to position Fugro’s solutions as essential to project feasibility and risk mitigation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within oil and gas companies.
  • Served as a trusted advisor, engaging with clients at multiple levels to ensure Fugro’s solutions align with their long-term strategic goals.
  • Lead account-based marketing initiatives and ensure tailored engagement with clients based on specific business needs.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments across the Americas.
  • Identify potential M&A opportunities, partnerships, or joint ventures that could enhance Fugro’s market position.
  • Utilize CRM tools to track lead progression, conversion rates, and sales performance.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Work closely with marketing to develop targeted campaigns based on regional market needs.
  • Coordinate with legal and finance teams to facilitate contract negotiations and approvals.
  • Regularly track and report on key sales and BD metrics, including lead conversion rates, pipeline health, and revenue growth.
  • Provide data-driven insights to refine sales and BD strategies and improve overall commercial effectiveness.

Job Requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or Business Management/MBA is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sales, business development, and strategic market expansion within the oil and gas industry.
  • A strong background in lead generation, qualification, conversion, and closing of high-value contracts.
  • Experience working in multinational, matrixed organizations with cross-functional teams.
  • A deep understanding of the oil and gas value chain, including upstream exploration, pre-FID studies, LNG plant development, and marine asset inspection.
  • A well-established network within operator exploration teams, EPCs, regulatory bodies, and industry consortia.
  • Client Orientation: Deep understanding of client needs and ability to provide tailored solutions.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop long-term business strategies and market entry plans.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
