Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Referral & Scheduling Coordinator is an integral member of the healthcare team and is responsible for appointment scheduling and referral functions throughout Marshall Medical Center’s (MMC) outpatient clinics.  Works with internal and external physician office staff, patients, providers and clinical staff to facilitate a fast and efficient referral process.  Provides seamless appointment scheduling to new and existing patients, successfully coordinating patient needs and department resources. Consistently facilitates effective communication between our patients, families, insurance companies, providers and members of the patient care support staff and participates in quality performance improvement activities to support a positive patient focused customer service experience.  

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Advanced training through vocational school or college desired.

Knowledge:

  • Previous experience in automated scheduling and/or referral functions for a physician office or multi-provider clinic, or experience with a medical background such as a Medical Assistant is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicare, and private health insurance policies, products and services.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding.
  • Office equipment familiarity & computer/data entry skills required, electronic medical record (EMR) experience preferred.
Skills:
  • Superior written and verbal communication abilities and interpersonal/customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Possesses a pleasant and friendly demeanor and ability to maintain a positive and team oriented attitude.
  • Comfortable with regularly verifying and processing insurance eligibility and obtaining authorization requests, including verifying personal credentials with external partners to obtain this information (e.g., ID.me for identity verification for VA insurance coordination).
