VP of Engineering — Hands-on Technology Leader

Location: Remote
Compensation: Total compensation package up to $600K/year, potentially including base salary, equity, and other components.

About the Opportunity

We’re partnering with a fast-growing, AI-native technology company building next-generation products at the intersection of mobile, wireless infrastructure, privacy, and AI.
The company is tackling complex technical challenges across consumer applications, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI, and is looking for a senior engineering leader to take broad ownership of the technology organization.

The Role

We’re looking for a hands-on VP of Engineering who can lead the engineering organization and technical strategy while remaining deeply connected to the technology.
This is not a management-only position. You’ll own engineering across web, mobile, backend, DevOps/infrastructure, architecture, and AI, while helping the company continue to build and scale its engineering organization.
The core technology environment includes Golang, TypeScript, and GCP.

What You'll Do
  • Own the overall engineering strategy and technical roadmap
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team
  • Own architecture across web, mobile, backend, infrastructure, and AI
  • Remain hands-on with architecture, prototyping, code reviews, and complex technical problems
  • Build and scale systems primarily using Golang, TypeScript, and GCP
  • Establish strong engineering standards and development practices
  • Drive the adoption of AI-assisted software development across the organization
  • Leverage tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and other AI development tools to increase engineering velocity
  • Partner closely with Product and executive leadership
  • Balance speed of execution with scalability, reliability, security, and engineering quality
What We're Looking For
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience as a VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, CTO, Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Staff/Principal Engineer, or similar technical leadership role
  • Strong hands-on software engineering background
  • Experience at a recognized technology company, or a high-growth tech startup
  • Strong architecture and system design expertise
  • Experience building and scaling production systems
  • Experience leading engineers while remaining technically hands-on
  • Strong cloud and DevOps knowledge
  • Experience with Golang and/or TypeScript
  • Experience working with GCP or similar cloud environments
  • Practical experience using AI to code, prototype, debug, review, and ship software
  • Strong product mindset and comfort operating in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent English communication skills
Nice to Have
  • Experience building AI or LLM-powered products
  • Mobile engineering experience
  • Experience with telecommunications, networking, distributed systems, or high-scale consumer products
  • Previous experience as a founding or early-stage engineer
  • Experience scaling an engineering organization
  • Background at leading global or LATAM technology companies
Who We're Looking For

We want someone who can lead the engineering organization without stepping away from engineering.
You should be equally comfortable discussing company-level technology strategy, designing architecture, mentoring senior engineers, reviewing code, and using AI tools to prototype and ship new ideas.
We're not looking for a manager who used to code. We're looking for an engineering leader who still builds.

Compensation & Location

This is a fully remote opportunity.
The total compensation package can reach up to $600K/year, potentially including base salary, equity, and other components, depending on experience and profile.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
