About Radiant

Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.

About the Role

Radiant is seeking a Reactor Operations Training Specialist to play a critical role in enabling safe, scalable operations for the line of Kaleidos reactors. In this role, you will be responsible for building Reactor Operator training resources to enable timely and effective training and certification of operators. This role goes beyond traditional documentation, requiring close, daily collaboration with operators, engineers, and test teams to rapidly translate emerging system knowledge into clear, actionable content. This role may also support engineering operations through the development of test plans, data reviews, and other key technical documentation needed to move from prototype to commercial deployment.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Direct experience with nuclear systems, reactor operations, or operator training programs.

  • Maintain records of operator qualification to DOE/NRC standards. Translate evolving reactor designs and operational concepts into clear, concise, and easily understood training content.

  • Embed with engineering, test, and operations teams to capture real-time technical insights and lessons learned and reflect them in documentation.

  • Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, and style guides suited for a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Manage document lifecycles within configuration-controlled systems, including version control, change tracking, and rapid updates.

  • Balance speed and rigor to ensure documentation supports both rapid development and regulatory expectations.

  • Capture operational lessons learned and support development of regulatory documents, to include white papers and topical reports.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Technical Communication, or a related technical discipline.

  • 2+ years of technical writing experience in a complex, engineering-driven environment (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, energy, or advanced hardware).

  • Familiarity with complex systems and the ability to distill them into operator-focused training content through both written and verbal mediums.

  • Ability to deliver instructional material in both group and one-on-one classroom environments.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and procedures.

  • Ability to work with incomplete or evolving technical information and produce clear, accurate documentation.

  • Experience developing training materials, technical references, or test documentation.

  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working directly with engineers and operators in a dynamic setting.

  • Familiarity with document control and configuration management principles.

Desired Qualifications & Skills:

  • Background in instructional design or building technical training programs

  • Familiarity with NRC or DOE regulatory instructions and licensing considerations for commercial reactors.

  • Ability to operate with a high degree of ownership and autonomy in an evolving organizational structure.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.

  • Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
