About OnePay

OnePay is a consumer financial services app with an exceedingly simple mission: to help people achieve financial progress.

Tens of millions of Americans today are unbanked or underbanked, meaning they don’t have enough money in savings to cover a minor emergency. They pay too much in fees, don’t have access to credit at affordable rates, and have little ability to grow their wealth. OnePay’s vision is to create a single app for consumers to save, spend, borrow, and grow their money, bringing our mission to life with simple and accessible banking, credit, and payments products that deliver a best-in-class experience to millions of customers. Our products include:

  • Checking and high-yield savings accounts

  • Domestic and international peer-to-peer payments

  • Credit Builder and credit score monitoring

  • Digital wallet / contactless payment solutions

  • Credit card program

  • Buy-now-pay-later installment loans at Walmart

  • Prepaid mobile service

Why do we have a right to win? We have the backing of Walmart (a Fortune 1) and Ribbit Capital (a preeminent fintech investor), are deeply embedded with the distribution of the world’s largest omnichannel retailer, and have an industry-leading multi-product value proposition — all in addition to having some of the best people and talent in the industry.

There’s never been a better time to build a category-defining business and there has rarely been a team better positioned for the opportunity. Join us!

The Role

As a React Native Engineer at OnePay, you'll craft simple, elegant mobile experiences that sit at the heart of our customers' financial lives - with a focus on UI animations and interaction design that make our app feel fast, intuitive, and delightful. You will:

  • Build and ship animation-rich features that bring joy and clarity to our customers’ financial journeys

  • Employ best practices such as code reviews, automated testing, and continuous delivery on a modern React Native stack to achieve both quality and velocity

  • Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to bring interaction and motion design concepts to life

  • Optimize animations for performance across devices and platforms, ensuring smooth and consistent experiences

  • Own your work from concept to launch, earning the trust of teammates through accountability and transparency

You Bring
  • 5+ years of professional experience building and deploying iOS and Android apps with React Native

  • Deep experience with UI animations and interaction design (e.g., React Native Reanimated, Gesture Handler, Lottie, or native animation APIs)

  • Experience building out scalable design system libraries or components

  • Strong understanding of mobile performance optimization, including frame rate, rendering, and device resource constraints

  • Passion for your craft and genuine care for teammates—quality in code, communication, and culture is non-negotiable

  • Act-like-an-owner mentality: you proactively identify problems and drive them to resolution

  • Drive and proactivity – everyone here is a builder and executor

Tools We Use

We use Node and TypeScript on the server, leveraging the NestJS framework within a microservice-oriented architecture running on Kubernetes and AWS. On the client side, we build and ship product features for iOS, Android, and web platforms using React Native. While you don’t need experience with our exact stack, familiarity with modern software engineering practices will help you ramp up quickly.

What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary, stock options, and health benefits from Day 1

  • 401(k) plan with company match

  • Remote-friendly (US), flexible time off (FTO), and opportunities for growth

  • A high-growth, mission-driven, inclusive culture where your work has real impact

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
