The candidate will optimize and create RF subsystems, working on testing, design, and integration of communication components and systems.
General Description: This candidate will work with a dynamic group of RF IC designers and system integrators to optimize and create new RF and millimeter-wave subsystems. The team works with both silicon and III-V technology nodes and leverages HRL’s internal GaN foundry. You will play a critical role in creating high-performance solutions for next-generation wireless communication, radar, and sensing applications.
Essential Duties:
Contribute technical expertise and work within a focused team that designs, fabricates, integrates and tests RF and electromagnetic components and subsystems at frequencies ranging from below 0.1 to 200+ GHz.
Work closely with scientists and engineers to develop state of the art RF components such as antenna and RF front-ends for communication, radar and EW applications.
Required Skills:
Minimum 1 year of experience with RF testing and knowledge of standard microwave equipment such as VNA and spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
The ability to use and program test control software. Use of high-frequency circuit, electro-magnetic and system simulators such as ADS, AWR, VSS, Sonnet, HFSS and other RF & EM tools for design of antennas and RF front end modules and sub-assemblies is a plus.
Working knowledge of RF and microwave measurements and testing of analog electronic circuits.
A working familiarity with common passive and active microwave structures and network analysis techniques.
Knowledge of module integration, mechanical design, and PCB layout is a plus.
Applicant must be able to interact professionally with program managers, co-workers, customers, operate complex electronic equipment, perform detailed analyses of integrated circuits, and prepare written and oral presentations.
Ability to work well in a team of highly skilled engineers on complex projects, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Physical Requirements:
Must be willing to travel
Required Education:
B.S. or M.S in Electrical Engineering
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position $76,530 - $93,320 + bonus + benefits.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
- Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
- Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
