The Quantitative Engineer at Jito Labs will design and implement algorithms for distributed systems, focusing on scalability and performance in decentralized finance.
Jito Labs is architecting the future of high-performance distributed systems on Solana. We believe Solana represents the future of internet-scale finance - a world where anyone, anywhere can access transparent, efficient, and fair markets. To realize this vision, we need to solve some of the hardest technical challenges in distributed systems and quantitative finance.
At Jito Labs, you'll work alongside a small, nimble group of engineers and operators who are passionate about solving complex technical challenges at the cutting edge of Solana trading and infrastructure. Our team culture emphasizes:
High ownership: Every team member drives significant technical decisions and shapes our product roadmap.
Fast execution: We ship rapidly and iterate based on real-world feedback. Progress, not motion.
Technical excellence: We tackle complex problems with elegant, scalable solutions.
Sustainable growth: Strong financials and proven market fit enable us to focus on long-term impact.
If you're excited about:
- Solving complex distributed systems challenges
- Working with cutting-edge trading infrastructure
- Contributing to open-source blockchain technology
- Making a tangible impact on one of the fastest-growing L1 blockchain
...then we want to hear from you.
We offer competitive compensation, significant equity, and the opportunity to work on problems that matter. Don't just watch the future of blockchain unfold - help us build it.
Role Overview
We're looking for a quantitative engineer who shares our vision that blockchain can create open, transparent markets that serve people around the world. This role offers the chance to develop foundational technology that doesn't exist today, shaping how value flows through one of the world's fastest-growing blockchain ecosystems.
Your contributions will directly impact scalability, performance, and accessibility in decentralized systems, driving real-world adoption and innovation. You'll work on high-impact projects at the intersection of quantitative finance and blockchain technology, designing sophisticated algorithms to enhance efficiency and reduce friction in the Solana ecosystem for millions of users, from retail participants to institutions.
On a daily basis, you'll be spending roughly 25% designing algorithms and 75% implementing and testing them.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement high-performance algorithms for complex optimization problems in distributed systems
- Build quantitative models for real-time analysis, inefficiency minimization, and risk evaluation in dynamic, high-volatility environments.
- Integrate with low-latency data streams and blockchain state monitoring to enable rapid, adaptive decision-making.
- Develop and test algorithms in high-volume settings, ensuring scalability to process billions in value with resilience under network stress.
- Contribute to parameter-driven systems where user inputs guide dynamic operations and automated adjustments.
- Evaluate system performance through metrics analysis, benchmarking, and data-driven iterations to continuously improve outcomes.
- Collaborate on integrating solutions into APIs and backend services
- Create robust frameworks for testing and validating algorithmic strategies.
- Work with a world-class team of engineers on cutting-edge blockchain infrastructure.
- Contribute to open-source projects that advance the entire Solana ecosystem.
Strong Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Rust, C++, or Python with a focus on performant algorithm implementation.
- 3+ years of experience in quantitative engineering, algorithmic optimization, or related fields, such as high-frequency systems or network modeling.
- Deep expertise in optimization, graph algorithms, and real-time systems.
- Track record of building systems that operate at significant scale.
- Passion for blockchain technology and its potential to transform finance.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment.
- Background in market microstructure.
Weak Requirements
- Experience with Solana or other high-performance blockchains
- Knowledge of distributed systems and consensus mechanisms
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Published research in relevant fields

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
- Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
- Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
