At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team:

The Quality team is focused on embedding quality into every part of the design and production process for Terran R. Not just inspecting at the end but influencing how things are built from the start. The team embeds themselves directly within design, manufacturing, test, and launch teams to stay close to the hardware, understand constraints, and proactively shape decisions. As we move beyond initial development into production and then scaled operations, now is the time to put the right processes, controls, and inspections in place without slowing down progress. The team plays a key role in balancing risk, driving a culture of ownership, and ensuring that speed doesn’t come at the cost of reliability. Success here means building a quality system that scales with the Terran R program and Relativity as a whole.

About the Role:

You will lead a team of Production Floor, Quality Inspectors embedded directly within the Terran R structures and assembly lines. Your primary mission is to ensure "first-time quality" by overseeing in-process inspections, final walkdowns, and technical guidance for propulsion and structural integration. You will act as the critical link between the build technicians and engineering to resolve real-time manufacturing blockers.

  • Assembly Oversight: Lead day-to-day inspection activities for large-scale integrated assemblies, including propulsion components and vehicle structures.
  • In-Process Verification: Supervise visual, dimensional, and functional inspections during the build, ensuring all hardware meets CAD models and work order requirements.
  • Non-Conformance Management: Oversee the documentation of deviations through NCs (Non-Conformance) and drive root cause analysis (RCCA) to prevent recurrence on the line.
  • Final Walkdowns & FOD: Lead final assembly walkdowns and critical "closeout" photo documentation; oversee FOD (Foreign Object Debris) inspections using borescopes in assembly cavities.
  • Team Performance: Manage a team of 10–20 inspectors, handling timecards, certifications, training, and performance coaching to maintain a highly skilled, flexible workforce.
  • Tactical Collaboration: Partner with Production Supervisors and Manufacturing Engineers to unblock the line and resolve complex assembly-level quality issues.

About You:

  • 7+ years of quality inspection experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments, including 2+ years in a leadership or lead role.
  • Prior experience of managing, mentoring, and developing inspectors or technicians, including coaching on technical skills and quality expectations.
  • Expert proficiency with precision hand tools such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gages, along with standard shop-floor inspection techniques.
  • Advanced experience with managing Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and navigate CAD models (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Ability to support a 50-hour baseline workweek with flexibility for overtime to meet launch milestones, along with the ability to stand for extended periods on the production floor, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Familiarity with digital factory tools like Infor LN, MES, or JIRA.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certifications applied to an assembly line.
  • Background in propulsion or electromechanical system integration.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
