Job Overview:

We are looking for a Quality Engineer (Electrical) with broad responsibilities across electrical and electronic assemblies. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of electrical architecture, control systems, and electronic components throughout their life cycle. This role involves collaborating with suppliers, product designers, and production teams to establish and maintain quality standards, troubleshoot complex electrical issues, and drive continuous improvement. The Electrical Quality Engineer will act as a liaison between the company's cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams. Responsibilities include defining electrical quality standards, performing root cause analysis on electrical and electronic failures, defining inspection standards, end-of-line test controls, quality gates, and determining corrective actions. A successful Electrical Quality Engineer should have excellent analytical and electrical troubleshooting skills and be able to ensure that processes and products are consistently improved.

What You’ll Do:
  • Monitor electrical and electronic quality performance metrics, proactively identifying and escalating emerging high-impact issues using process, end-of-line test, and warranty data for early resolution.

  • Drive timely root cause analysis and resolution by engaging and holding cross-functional teams accountable with a data-driven approach to ensure root cause is identified and resolved (e.g., electrical noise, signal integrity loss, component failure, assembly defects).

  • Implement continuous improvement by driving lessons learned into relevant electrical design and manufacturing processes.

  • Develop and track data-driven metrics for issue monitoring, electrical yields, and corrective action effectiveness.

  • Create innovative tools and processes to enhance efficiency, electrical test coverage, and scalability across production.

  • Continuously develop electrical quality standards, quality control systems, and manufacturing and supplier quality protocols for Harbinger’s electrical harnesses, power distribution units, controllers, and PCBAs.

  • Perform thorough inspection and testing of materials, equipment, processes, and products (including Hi-Pot testing, continuity, resistance, and functional electrical testing) to ensure meticulous compliance with specifications.

  • Support the assembly team with electrical distribution units, high/low-voltage wiring harnesses, controllers, and electrical test equipment buyoff, conducting technical and statistical investigations concerning quality issues, test methods, and equipment.

  • Formulate effective corrective actions, solutions, and enhancements for supplier, production, and product-related challenges specific to vehicle electrical systems.

  • Participate in design reviews (DFMEA/PFMEA) alongside design engineering and manufacturing teams to mitigate manufacturing, wiring routing, grounding, and assembly risks linked to electrical components.

  • Lead and instruct interdisciplinary efforts to conduct Root Cause analysis (8D, 5-Why) for both internal and external electrical and electronic products, ensuring timely responses and validation of corrective actions to prevent non-conformances.

  • Lead MRB (Material Review Board) meetings and act as a quality representative within the engineering change control board for vehicle electrical systems and electronic sub-assemblies.

Who You Are:
  • You are a hands-on engineer that loves to solve complex technical problems. You have a bias for action and continuous improvement.

  • You are energetic, passionate about electrical quality, and committed to delivering best-in-class products.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.

  • 3 to 5 years of pertinent experience in manufacturing quality or supplier quality engineering involving automotive/EV electrical systems, wiring harnesses, PCBAs, power electronics, or equivalent products.

  • ASQ Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Manager (CQM), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, or higher, are preferred.

  • Proficiency in ISO 9001:2018 or IATF 16949 standards is highly desired.

  • Familiarity with fundamental quality core tools including Quality Management Systems, Supplier and Internal Audits, APQP, SPC, GR&R, PPAP, FMEA (DFMEA/PFMEA), and Control Plans.

  • Strong analytical, electrical troubleshooting, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

  • Excellent project management skills, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.

  • Solid understanding of vehicle electrical architecture (CAN/LIN bus communication, high and low voltage distribution, grounding strategies, PCBAs, and wire harness fabrication) is required.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

Key Benefits & Perks:
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental & Vision (HDV) – 100% employee covered
  • Early-stage Stock Options
  • Robust Retirement Savings (401k, HSA, FSA)
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) & Parental Leave

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
