Quality Control Inspectors conduct quality inspections, maintain records, collaborate with teams, and ensure compliance in aerospace manufacturing.
General Description:
As a Quality Control inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and compliance of our disruptive electro-optical detector technologies. Your responsibilities will include conducting quality inspections, reading and interpreting drawings, approving finished products, documenting inspection records, and maintaining a safe work environment. You will collaborate closely with the Quality and Fabrication Operations teams to communicate necessary adjustments and improvements. As a member of the QC/QA team, you will help maintain and continually improve the VSL quality management system by adhering to processes and contributing to projects resolving corrective actions or findings in a timely manner.
Essential Duties:
Quality inspectors are responsible for identifying product quality issues that may occur during all stages of the product realization process and assist in resolving and eliminating defective product. This role may require working the 1st or 2nd shift, depending on schedule needs to meet on time delivery. Essential duties may include the following.
Initiate non-conformance records in the quality system platform, and segregate non-compliant material and goods
Maintain traceability of incoming materials and final goods
Perform audit/surveillance of test and assembly processes to ensure processes are in accordance with approved specifications and standards
Perform inspection of parts/assemblies to ensure they have been assembled or procured per the design, inspection criteria and/or manufacturing order.
Maintain accurate quality inspection records with clear and precise reporting, particularly when discrepancies occur in manufacturing and test operations
Approve incoming materials by conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting unacceptable materials and support the return (RMA), if needed.
Identify waste and opportunities for improvement, and communicate necessary adjustments to Quality Engineering and Production Managers.
Support other inspection areas within all VSL departments
Participate in internal and external audits of VSL’s quality management system
Demonstrate working knowledge of VSL’s ERP systems (Costpoint, Dynafact, MES, Windchill PLM, Confluence, Sharepoint, etc.)

Required Skills:
Experience in reporting non-conformances
Executing to manufacturing orders and work instructions
Minimum 5 years of professional work experience in quality control inspection of finished products in an aerospace manufacturing work environment, or similar
Experience interpreting engineering specifications, quality standards and industry regulations of aerospace parts and assemblies:
oMeasurement instruments like CMM, optical scopes, mulitimeters and calibers
oIPC-A-620, IPC-A-610, and J-STD-001 standards
oQuality standards AS9100 or ISO9001
Advanced knowledge of product manufacturing, assembly, test and inspection processes
Ability to translate an end-product standard into an inspection process, desired
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and workmanship standards
Proficiency in MS Office applications
Strong communication, organizational, and attentive to detail skills
Work in a fast-paced environment independently
Required Education:
High school diploma or GED with at least 5 years of experience in Quality Control
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Must be able to be in a stationary position more than 50% of the time
Operate a computer and other inspection machinery (gauges, scopes, calipers)
Must be able to follow cleanroom gowning protocols before and after exiting

Compensation:
The pay range for this position is $39.62 - $49.54 per hour + bonus + benefits.
