Description

Our Mission:
ButterflyMX is on a mission to empower people to open and manage doors & gates from a smartphone. Our products are installed in more than 15,000+ multifamily, commercial, gated communities, and student-housing properties worldwide, including properties developed, owned, and managed by the most trusted names in real estate. Our features are designed for developers, owners, property managers, and tenants and our products lower operating costs and improve tenant satisfaction.

Our Solution:
Developers and owners no longer need to run building wiring or install in-unit hardware. • Establish and maintain quality policies, standards, and procedures covering design, manufacturing, supplier management, and field reliability.
  • Define and drive corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes based on field and manufacturing data.
  • Own the Failure Analysis (FA) process, investigating product defects, conducting root cause analysis (RCA), and implementing long-term solutions.

Design for Quality & Reliability

  • Work closely with hardware engineers to integrate quality and reliability principles into the design phase, ensuring DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFT (Design for Testability), and DFA (Design for Assembly) best practices.
  • Lead product reliability testing, including environmental stress testing, lifecycle analysis, and accelerated aging tests to predict and mitigate failure modes.
  • Collaborate with firmware and electrical engineers to analyze failure patterns and optimize testing strategies for circuit board assemblies and electromechanical components.

Supplier Quality & Manufacturing Oversight

  • Develop and maintain supplier quality requirements, ensuring contract manufacturers and component suppliers meet or exceed our quality expectations.
  • Define and implement Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), and Final Quality Control (FQC) strategies at manufacturing sites.
  • Perform supplier audits, evaluate process capabilities, and work with vendors to continuously improve manufacturing quality.

Inspection, Testing, and Field Quality Assurance

  • Define and oversee inspection criteria, test plans, and acceptance levels for hardware components and finished products.
  • Lead failure investigations for field returns, customer complaints, and internal test failures, ensuring proper documentation and resolution.
  • Own first article inspection (FAI) and production part approval process (PPAP) for new product introductions (NPI).

Continuous Improvement & Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Utilize Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and statistical process control (SPC) methodologies to improve product and process quality.
  • Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield rates, defect rates, first-pass success rates, and customer return metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Champion a culture of quality by training internal teams and suppliers on best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Experience in quality engineering, quality management, or reliability engineering in hardware, electronics, or electromechanical product development.
  • Strong understanding of QMS frameworks (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or similar) and experience implementing process controls in a manufacturing environment.
  • Deep experience with root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes, materials, and electronics assembly techniques.
  • Proficiency in supplier quality management, including audits, process validation, and defect tracking.
  • Knowledge of environmental, mechanical, and electrical reliability testing (thermal cycling, vibration, HALT/HASS, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications, including GD&T and IPC-A-610/620 standards.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with engineering, operations, and manufacturing partners.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
