About Us

Epic Kids is the leading digital reading platform built for kids 12 and under, trusted by millions of children, educators, and families around the world. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of reading by providing unlimited access to thousands of high-quality books, videos, and educational content through a safe and engaging experience. We combine technology, storytelling, and learning innovation to help every child become a confident reader.

At Epic, you'll join a collaborative and fast-paced global team passionate about building meaningful products that make a real impact on children's education and literacy.

About the Role

The QA Engineer will help drive the quality and reliability of Epic's products as we grow. You are a hands-on tester who owns the quality of the features you cover -- planning what to test, finding the problems that matter, and making sure they get fixed before they reach users. You will work across Epic's web app, iOS and Android apps, and the services behind them, partnering closely with product and engineering throughout the development cycle.

This is a fully remote, US-based role working closely with a global engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain test plans and test cases from product specs and acceptance criteria across web and mobile
  • Execute manual functional, exploratory, and regression testing across web and mobile, including cross-browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and cross-device coverage on real iOS and Android devices
  • Own release verification -- run smoke and sanity passes and provide QA sign-off before releases ship
  • Write clear, reproducible bug reports; triage severity and priority, and drive defects to closure with engineers
  • Strengthen and expand Epic's automated testing -- extend UI/end-to-end and API coverage and grow it as features change
  • Partner with product and engineering during feature development to catch issues early
  • Track and report QA coverage, defect trends, and release-quality signals
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years in a QA or software-testing role, including hands-on manual test planning and execution
  • Experience testing native mobile apps on real iOS and Android devices
  • Structured bug reporting and defect triage in an issue tracker (e.g., Jira)
  • Experience building automated UI/end-to-end and API tests with a modern framework (e.g., Playwright or Cypress)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a sense of ownership over quality
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with running tests in CI (e.g., Jenkins)
  • Prior QA experience with consumer web or mobile applications
  • Basic SQL for data verification
  • Experience with test-management tooling (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr)
  • Familiarity with Testramp for automated regression orchestration
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing against WCAG or Section 508
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
