About the Role

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and user-focused Contract Software QA Tester (Manual) to join our team at Mix. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about ensuring high-quality product experiences and has a strong eye for detail—even if they don’t have a technical or coding background. As a QA Tester, you’ll be responsible for reviewing product functionality, identifying bugs, and helping ensure that our software meets the expectations of our users.

This role will be an independent contractor and will be expected to work approximately 20 hours per week to start, with an opportunity to work on other projects for additional hours. The hourly rate will be between $30-$40 per hour, depending on experience, and this person can be located anywhere in the US.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute manual test plans to validate product features and user flows

  • Report bugs, inconsistencies, and usability issues clearly and thoroughly

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to understand feature requirements and edge cases

  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for new releases

  • Help document and maintain test cases and QA processes

  • Track and verify resolved issues to ensure proper fixes

  • Provide feedback to improve functionality, design, and user experience

  • Help maintain product quality across browsers, devices, and environments

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–3 years experience in a QA role (software or digital product experience preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail and a natural curiosity to find what’s “off”

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to think from a user’s perspective and advocate for quality

  • Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Comfortable using tools like Asana, Jira, Trello, Confluence, or similar

  • Familiarity with web and mobile applications

  • Bonus: Experience with tools like TestRail, Zephyr, or exploratory testing tools

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

  • Experience working in Agile teams or fast-paced environments

  • Familiarity with basic QA methodologies or terminology (e.g., regression testing, smoke testing)

  • Interest in growing into a more technical QA role over time

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
