As a Project Manager, you will oversee the planning and execution of complex construction projects within the education sector. In this role, you will manage project scope, budget, schedule, and stakeholder coordination while ensuring compliance with Division of the State Architect (DSA) guidelines. You will work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, and public agencies to support successful project delivery from pre-construction through project closeout.
Projects often involve multiple stakeholders, regulatory requirements, and strict schedule and budget expectations. This role provides the opportunity to lead major public infrastructure projects while contributing to the delivery of high-quality educational facilities.
Your Day-to-Day Activities:
- Respond to contractor requests for clarification (RFCs) and coordinate resolution with project teams
- Review substitution requests from contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications and owner requirements=
- Manage and oversee all phases of assigned construction projects, including pre-construction, procurement, construction, and closeout
- Review design and pre-construction documents and provide comments or recommendations to the design team as needed
- Coordinate with public agencies and regulatory entities to support permitting, compliance, and off-site work requirements
- Prepare and present project status updates and progress reports to leadership and key stakeholders
- Manage project budgets and schedules to ensure alignment with project goals and district standards
- Track and review contractor schedules, submittals, and project documentation
- Evaluate and negotiate contractor change order proposals while assessing schedule and cost impacts
- Review payment applications and monitor financial activity for contractors, architects, engineers, and other project partners
- Administer professional service agreements between the owner and design consultants
- Coordinate the procurement and delivery of project-related fixtures, furniture, and equipment
- Support project closeout activities, including documentation, regulatory certification, and financial reconciliation
- Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with DSA project certification requirements
- Perform other related project management duties as assigned
The Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field
- 10 or more years of professional experience in construction management for commercial, public, or educational facility projects
- Experience managing projects with construction values exceeding $10M
- Strong knowledge of construction project lifecycle, including procurement, construction administration, and closeout
- Experience coordinating with contractors, design teams, and public agencies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
You’ll stand out if you have:
- Experience working on education construction projects within California
- Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction and design processes
- Experience with Design-Build delivery methods
- Experience using Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools
- Experience with LEED-certified or CHPS projects
- OSHA 30 certification or strong familiarity with construction safety practices
- Professional certifications such as Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record
- $135,000-$160,000 annual salary
