About The Role
We are seeking individuals to join as a Project Engineering Manager to lead and execute the engineering scope for utility‑scale battery energy storage projects. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this role functions as both a hands‑on technical contributor and a team leader, responsible for driving timely, high‑quality delivery of multidisciplinary engineering work, including; civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical, through construction and commissioning.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor Project Engineers while also serving as a hands‑on technical contributor across multiple BESS projects. Manage relationships with Owner’s Engineers, Engineers of Record, and Independent Engineers, including oversight of TEI/IE diligence activities.
  • Provide direct technical guidance by reviewing designs, proposals, and engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and alignment with project scope, constructability, and schedule requirements.
  • Drive engineering execution by participating in project meetings, validating basis of design, and resolving technical issues in partnership with project managers, construction managers, and development engineering.
  • Manage commissioning activities by coordinating engineering deliverables, resolving technical issues during energization and testing, and ensuring the BESS system meets performance, safety, and ISO/RTO compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and manage engineering logs (issues, RFIs, submittals), assign responsibilities with clear deadlines, and communicate project status, risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership in a concise, fact-based manner.
  • Lead efforts to standardize and optimize end‑to‑end project engineering processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability across the portfolio.
  • Evaluate and recommend engineering expenditures and resource allocations to support project execution and organizational priorities.
Quality Assurance
  • Lead and personally support construction‑phase engineering execution, ensuring all work aligns with IFC design drawings and resolving discrepancies in real time.
  • Oversee and directly manage engineering document control, including IFC sets, redlines, manufacturer drawings, and as‑builts to maintain accurate, audit‑ready project records.
  • Manage and optimize the technical commissioning‑to‑operations handover process by driving a structured, methodical transition that ensures system readiness, documentation completeness, and operational alignment.
Safety
  • Support project management and HSE teams in developing and executing site‑specific safety programs, participating in planning and hazard analyses, and serving as a technical resource for safety concerns.
  • Monitor partner work plans and site activities to identify and address safety risks while maintaining a clean, compliant work environment through consistent enforcement of procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date working knowledge of construction safety standards and regulatory requirements (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.) to guide safe project execution.
     
Skills & Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience in power delivery, substations, transmission, interconnection, and renewable energy, including 2+ years in energy storage, is required.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program is required; Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards and codes, including IBC, NFPA 855, CEC, CFC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, OSHA, and UL.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Microsoft Project, and Smartsheets.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to maintain calm and effective exchanges by all parties during stressful situations, and executive level reporting that ensures timely action and decision making in time-pressured scenarios.

Compensation, Location & Benefits
The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

This position is classified as remote within the continental United States (international work is not permitted); however, periodic travel to company offices, project sites or other meeting locations may be required on an as-needed basis. Willingness to travel is required - up to 20%.
