Dueall Construction is hiring a Full-Cycle Senior Project Accountant to own the finances of a portfolio of construction projects, from contract setup through final billing and closeout. You'll be the financial partner to our Project Managers and Superintendents, managing job cost, owner billing, subcontractor payables, revenue recognition, and monthly WIP reporting.

This role suits an accountant who wants to own the whole process, not just one piece of it. You'll typically manage 3 active projects of about $3 million each and report to the Controller.

What You'll Do

    • Review prime contracts and subcontracts for billing terms, retainage, and payment schedules; set up jobs, budgets, and schedules of values
    • Review cost coding, maintain revised budgets as change orders are approved, and reconcile committed costs, actual costs, and cost-to-complete with PMs every month
    • Prepare monthly AIA or owner-specific progress billings, including T&M and cost-plus, and meet every owner deadline
    • Manage lien waivers, sworn statements, aged receivables, retainage, and collections
    • Review subcontractor pay applications and manage back charges and retainage releases
    • Prepare the monthly WIP schedule (cost-to-cost, ASC 606) and project-level forecasts; escalate margin fade or gain
    • Prepare project financial analysis and present project performance at the monthly month-end (ME) meeting
    • Lead financial closeout: final billing, final lien waivers, retainage, and final job cost reports
    • Help identify and roll out process improvements that make project accounting more accurate and efficient
    • Support ME close, audits & surety requests
    • What You Bring
      • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
      • 3-5 years of project accounting experience, including at least 2 years in construction
      • Hands-on experience with progress billing, retainage, lien waivers, and subcontractor pay applications
      • Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and WIP schedules
      • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliations
      • Ability to research and reconcile discrepancies and prepare ad-hoc reports as needed
      • Preferred: experience in commercial, industrial, heavy civil, or specialty trade contracting
      • Tools: Sage Intacct, Procore, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Teams
      • You'll Thrive Here If You Are
        • A self-starter who takes ownership of your projects and moves work forward without waiting to be asked
        • Equally effective working independently and as part of a team
        • Detail-oriented, someone who never misses a billing date or pay-app cutoff
        • Comfortable challenging a forecast with data, respectfully and directly
        • A clear communicator with owners, subcontractors, and field staff
        • Able to manage several projects at different stages at once
        • Proactive about improving processes and documentation
        • Energized by a fast-paced, high-growth environment

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
