The Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences is searching for a Programmer Analyst II to join their team. Reporting to the Operations & Special Projects Manager, the Programmer Analyst II will work closely with the department’s Research Programmer II, and Psychiatry Leadership Team to develop, operate, and maintain software and IT systems, in support of clinical operations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Follow design specifications to code, test, debug, install, document, and maintain software applications.
  • Perform application administration and sysadmin-type tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and modify existing software and systems.
  • Analyze, assess, and modify existing programs to make improvements.
  • Proactively and diligently protect data to minimize and control privacy and security risks.
  • Analyze data to answer a variety of questions, which could include questions related to psychiatric treatment outcomes, improving clinical operations, or business planning.  
  • Work as a team member on other large operational process improvement projects or work independently on projects of lesser scope but which require competency in programming, analysis, and project management.  
  • Make suggestions, based on daily operations, on how to improve processes within the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • At least 2 years of experience in a role doing primarily software or web development, or engineering.
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering (software, systems, or other), Informatics, Information Science, Mathematics, Software Development, Statistics, or Web Development, or a degree in a field that intensively uses quantitative or computing methods (such as neuroscience). 
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity (including cryptography topics) and secure coding principles.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing server-side software according to secure coding principles.
  • Experience writing Internet-facing apps and code to use APIs.
  • Able to do basic administrative tasks, configure a web server.
  • Experience with Web design; demonstrable intermediate knowledge of HTML
  • Experience with writing thorough and clear written responses to a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrable ability and willingness to do tasks involving a command-line interface. 
  • Experience with a software development methodology or SDLC
  • Experience with software analysis and design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of paid full-time experience as a software developer, or engineer, in a healthcare setting
  • Experience handling and safeguarding health data with personal identifiers and familiarity with compliance requirements in clinical settings
  • Experience creating REDCap projects
  • Skilled in both software (including Web application) development and statistical analysis.
  • Background in developing with a LAMP or LAMP-like stack, or is a full stack web developer
  • Experience producing visual information
  • Prior experience with database and model design, SQL database development
  • Experience with more than two statistical packages, and experience with more than two programming languages or environments apart from R, SAS, SPSS, and STATA
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and HTML and CSS code

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined work experience and education as equivalent 

Minimum Experience: 2 years of paid full-time experience

Minimum Field of Expertise: Sound knowledge of programming and documentation procedures, programming methods. Knowledge of one or more appropriate computer languages.

The hourly rate for this position is $42.73 - $54.21.
