Position Summary:

Audubon is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator, Coastal to support and grow the Coastal Program in California. This position will support multiple coastal initiatives across California to advance Audubon’s conservation goals. Reporting to the Sr. Coastal Program Manager, the Coordinator will play a central role in planning, implementing, and tracking coastal programs and projects. This position will strengthen partnerships, support community engagement, and help build a more resilient and equitable coastline through science, policy, restoration, and community leadership. 

A key initiative the Program Coordinator will support is the Coastal Leadership Program (CLP), a yearly, 6-month program that supports the next generation of coastal stewards in LA County. At the direction of the Sr. Coastal Program Manager, the Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating program logistics, communications, facilitation, participant engagement, and reporting. This position will contribute to the CLP by building meaningful relationships with participants and partners. In addition to the CLP, the Coordinator will support community-led coastal restoration projects in southern California, statewide community engagement to build a resilient coastline, and assist coastal Audubon Chapters throughout the state.

This position is designated as remote but is based in the Los Angeles region with regular meetings at the Audubon Center at Debs Park and travel throughout Southern California and other coastal regions of the state as needed.

Compensation:

$25.16 – $28.00 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Support planning, implementation and coordination of multiple Coastal Program initiatives including restoration projects, community engagement, and coastal policy work.

  • Collaborate with local Audubon chapters on coastal conservation issues, projects, and funding opportunities.

  • Support the documentation and reporting for grant-funded projects and assist with tracking deliverables and outcomes for coastal projects.

  • Coordinate the day-to-day planning and implementation of the CLP, including sessions, field trips, closing ceremony, and Advisory Committee meetings.

  • Support the facilitation of CLP sessions and at times lead activities, icebreakers, or discussions.

  • Support continuous improvements of CLP during and after the program through participant feedback and drafting a program impact report.

  • Support internal and external communications related to CLP and other Coastal Program initiatives, including emails, blog posts, and social media content.

  • Help engage community members, partners, and local chapters in coastal conservation and restoration initiatives.

  • Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.

  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.

  • Assist with tracking metrics, deliverables, and outcomes for grant-funded projects.

  • Support documentation and reporting for grant-funded projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, marine or coastal studies, environmental policy, natural resources or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Two years of relevant professional experience in program coordination, coastal/bird conservation, community engagement, environmental policy, or related fields. 

  • Experience coordinating programs, projects, or events, preferably in environmental education, leadership development, or nonprofit setting

  • Strong organizational, project management and time management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities, stakeholders, and partners

  • Some experience with facilitation, community engagement, or supporting learning environments

  • Some background, training, or lived experience related to coastal or marine environments

  • Interest in coastal policy, conservation and/or community engagement

  • Valid driver’s license required. Access to reliable transportation for travel throughout southern California.

  • Commitment to Audubon’s organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation.

  • Experience fostering inclusive and collaborative work environments is valued.

  • Willingness and availability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as required. Must be comfortable and able to travel as job demands.
