The Role:
The Product Development Engineer will be the technical subject-matter expert on the Core Product team. This role needs someone who can understand what’s required to build our company’s technical capabilities to enable us to take new products from late-stage prototypes through to commercialization. As “lead tinkerer”, you will get your hands dirty in both software and hardware to understand the systems/technology required to launch new rug concepts at scale. This may involve recommending new industrial equipment/machinery or modifying existing industrial equipment/machinery to meet specific needs. This role requires a detail-oriented, self-starter who can clearly articulate technical concepts and needs in a succinct way to a non-technical audience. You can expect to be interfacing heavily with our Technology and Operations teams as an advocate for the needs of the Core Product team.
Key Responsibilities (dependent on candidate interest / business need at time of hire):
- Building rapid understanding of current state and future state technology required to deliver on our New Product roadmap
- Proactively modifying, building, or recommending the purchase of equipment or machinery required to fill these gaps between current state and future state needs
- Liaising on behalf of Product with Technology and Operations to get the right solutions in place, on-time and within budget
- Understanding and communicating trade-offs of different options to various stakeholders, balancing Product wants with what is feasible
Qualifications:
Required:
- 3+ years of technical experience with hardware/software in a manufacturing-based business, ideally with equipment closely related to our business (e.g. textile printers, digital cutters)
- Ability to assess gaps in technology and proactively recommend potential solutions to fill them
- Described by others as a “tinkerer” – you have a good sense of how to play around with machines, equipment, and software to get them working properly
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally in engineering or a related field
Preferred, but not necessary:
- Experience with CPG/Retail, especially with textiles, carpeting, or apparel
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally in engineering or a related field
- Advanced degree in engineering or a related field
