About Matia

Matia is at the forefront of the DataOps revolution, building a unified platform that streamlines data infrastructure from end-to-end. We empower data teams with seamless ingestion, reverse ETL, observability, and data catalog, enabling faster, smarter decisions with significantly less tool sprawl. Backed by leading investors and trusted by data teams at companies like Ramp, Honeybook, Drata, and Lemonade, we're building the future of data.

The Role

Matia is looking for a technically fluent product marketer to own how we position, message, and bring our platform to market. This role sits at the intersection of product, sales, and go-to-market strategy. You will be the voice of the market inside Matia and the voice of Matia in the market.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional position for someone who understands the modern data stack, can translate complex technical capabilities into compelling narratives, and thrives in a fast-moving startup environment.

What You'll Do

Positioning and Messaging

  • Own Matia's core positioning, messaging framework, and value proposition across segments and personas

  • Develop clear, differentiated narratives that resonate with data engineers, analytics engineers, and data leaders

  • Ensure consistent messaging across all channels and customer touchpoints

Content Strategy and Creation

  • Translate and work with contractors to position into high-impact content including website copy, product pages, blog posts, thought leadership, and technical explainers

  • Develop persona-specific content that drives awareness, consideration, and conversion

  • Partner with demand generation to align content with campaign strategy and pipeline goals

  • Support brand and social media efforts

Go-To-Market Execution

  • Lead product launches end-to-end, coordinating across product, sales, and marketing

  • Partner with demand generation on campaigns, content strategy, and pipeline programs, including develop account lists based on ICP

  • Build and maintain sales collateral including decks, one-pagers, battlecards, and objection-handling guides

  • Support field marketing efforts with messaging, potential on-site presence, and other elements

Market and Competitive Intelligence

  • Conduct ongoing research into buyer needs, market trends, and the competitive landscape

  • Develop and maintain competitive positioning and differentiation materials

  • Surface insights from customers, prospects, and the broader data community to inform strategy

  • Support analyst relationships and position Matia for success in their papers and research

Sales and Customer Enablement

  • Enable the sales team with the tools, training, and content they need to tell a compelling story

  • Partner with customer success to develop retention and expansion messaging

  • Capture and operationalize customer proof points, case studies, and ROI narratives

What We're Looking For
  • 4 or more years in product marketing in B2B SaaS; at least 2 of those years should be in data infrastructure company;
We’re flexible here - we love candidates that have lived the pain before and been a data engineer

  • Familiarity with the dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, or broader data tooling ecosystem through prior roles

  • Strong understanding of the modern data stack including warehouses, ETL/ELT, observability, and governance

  • Proven ability to translate technical concepts into clear, compelling messaging for both technical and business audiences

  • Experience partnering closely with product, sales, partnership and demand generation teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in leveraging AI to get sh*t done

  • Startup experience and comfort with ambiguity and a fast-moving environment; you will be the first product marketing hire here and need to feel comfortable traversing with a lean product team

Nice to Haves

  • Prior experience in a technical role such as data engineer, data analyst, analytics engineer, or solutions engineer

  • Experience building PMM function or programs from zero to one

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
