Our distributed open-ocean systems enable every vessel to sense, compute, and communicate, enhancing maritime domain awareness for those who need it most.

Job Description: Role Summary:

Quartermaster AI is seeking an accomplished and mission-driven Product Manager to lead the development and strategy for our core maritime domain awareness web application and data products, specifically targeting government and defense sector customers. This role requires a deep understanding of defense operations, user-centric research, and a proven ability to translate complex user needs into high-impact product features that drive adoption and indispensable utility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategy & Roadmap: Define web product strategy, and roadmap for the web application and data products, ensuring alignment with customer mission requirements, security protocols, and company objectives.

  • User Engagement & Adoption: Implement strategies to measure and actively increase Daily Active Users (DAU) and overall product engagement within the target customer base. Analyze usage data to inform feature prioritization.

  • Workflow Mastery: Develop an expert-level understanding of end-user workflows (e.g., intelligence gathering, mission planning, surveillance) to identify critical pain points and opportunities for platform integration and optimization.

  • Indispensable Product Development: Drive concept development for features and products that become mission-critical and indispensable tools for our defense and government users.

  • Requirements & Prioritization: Author clear, detailed product requirements (PRDs), user stories, and acceptance criteria.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with growth, UI/UX, and technical teams to ensure customer and engineering priorities are always aligned.

Qualifications (Preferred):
  • 7+ years of Product Management experience, preferably focused on SaaS, web applications, or data/analytics products.

  • Direct experience conducting product research and user studies (qualitative and quantitative) with customers in the government, defense, or national security sectors.

  • Proven track record of increasing key user engagement metrics, such as Daily Active Users (DAU), feature adoption, and retention.

  • Deep, first-hand understanding of operational environments, data requirements, and technical constraints within Navy, maritime, or related defense/intelligence organizations (e.g., as a former analyst, operator, or industry partner).

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a product or feature that became a "must-have" tool for a specific end-user base, solving a critical operational problem.

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to present complex technical topics and user needs to stakeholders at all levels, including senior government officials.

  • Experience managing products through an agile development lifecycle.

Work Environment:
  • Flexible working hours with occasional deadlines requiring high availability.

  • Opportunity to work on innovative projects with a global impact.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
