We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on, technically grounded Product Manager to own a portfolio of specialty pump and fluid handling products across the full product lifecycle. This role is ideal for product leaders with backgrounds in industrial equipment, mechanical systems, or engineered hardware products who are comfortable working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams.

The Product Manager will define product strategy and roadmaps, evaluate portfolio performance, and drive data‑informed, customer‑focused decisions across new product development, sustaining engineering, and lifecycle management. This role partners deeply with Mechanical Engineering, Application Engineering, Operations, Quality, Sales, and Supply Chain to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Market Ownership

  • Own and evolve product roadmaps for specialty pump and fluid handling products aligned to business goals, market needs, and portfolio priorities.
  • Analyze industrial markets, applications, and competitive offerings (including pump performance curves, materials, standards, and operating environments).
  • Gather and synthesize voice‑of‑customer input from end users, OEMs, distributors, and field teams to guide prioritization, enhancements, and investments.
  • Support product positioning by clearly articulating customer value, technical differentiation, and application suitability.

New Product Development (NPD) & Engineering Partnership

  • Lead product definition for new pump and industrial hardware development, including:
    • Product requirements
    • Commercial rationale
    • Application constraints
    • Cost, margin, and pricing inputs
  • Partner with Mechanical Engineering and Project Teams to translate product requirements into executable development plans.
  • Actively participate in design reviews, trade‑off discussions, and prioritization decisions balancing performance, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and time‑to‑market.
  • Own new product launches, including documentation, internal enablement, pilot feedback, and post‑launch performance monitoring.

Portfolio & Lifecycle Management

  • Own end‑to‑end product lifecycle management for assigned pump and industrial product lines, including:
    • Product enhancements
    • Cost reduction initiatives
    • Platform extensions
    • Rationalization and end‑of‑life planning
  • Monitor portfolio health using sales, margin, backlog, inventory, quality, warranty, and customer feedback metrics.
  • Recommend actions to optimize portfolio performance, including investment, sustainment, redesign, or phase‑out decisions.
  • Maintain accurate product specifications, technical documentation, certifications, and lifecycle status across internal systems.

Commercial, Pricing & Compliance Support

  • Provide product input into pricing strategy, including margin analysis, cost structure understanding, and competitive positioning.
  • Support forecasting and S&OP activities through informed product inputs and lifecycle visibility.
  • Serve as a product subject matter expert to support internal training, customer meetings, field ride‑alongs, and sales enablement.
  • Ensure products comply with relevant regulatory, safety, and quality standards (e.g., industrial certifications, customer specifications, regional compliance) in partnership with Quality and Compliance teams.

High‑Impact Behaviors

  • Technical Curiosity & Learning: Demonstrates interest in understanding how products work, how customers use them, and how design decisions impact performance and cost.
  • Cross‑Functional Leadership: Effectively influences Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Quality without formal authority.
  • Results‑Driven Execution: Balances technical depth with pragmatic decision‑making to deliver outcomes efficiently.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical or business field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, product engineering, application engineering, or technical commercial roles within industrial, mechanical, or hardware‑based environments.
  • Experience managing physical, engineered products across the product lifecycle (concept → launch → sustain → end‑of‑life).
  • Ability to translate customer applications and technical requirements into clear product priorities.
  • Experience supporting pricing analysis, forecasting, and portfolio reviews for industrial products.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working in manufacturing‑ and engineering‑driven environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision in a deadline‑driven, cross‑functional setting.

Strongly Preferred / Differentiating Experience

  • Background in pumps, fluid handling systems, rotating equipment, valves, or related industrial machinery.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems, including materials, hydraulics, operating conditions, and application constraints.
  • Experience with low‑to‑medium volume, specialty or engineered‑to‑order products.
  • Prior experience partnering closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams.
  • Experience supporting global or multi‑regional product portfolios.

Travel Requirement

  • Up to 25% travel, including customer visits, distributor or site visits, internal collaboration, and support for product launches and training.

Why Join Us

  • Work on real, engineered products that solve critical customer problems.
  • Be part of a collaborative, technically skilled team that values engineering rigor and practical execution.
  • Influence the future of a specialty pump and industrial product portfolio with real visibility and ownership.

The estimated salary range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience, and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range. At Xylem, we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, and Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
