Lead strategy and development of internal platforms and tools, driving product features, performance, and team collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

K2 Space is building large, high-powered spacecraft for the next generation of space development. Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Altimeter Capital, and many others ($200M raised to date), we intend to mass produce the highest-powered satellite platforms ever built for missions across LEO to Deep Space.

The rise of launch vehicles like Falcon 9 and Starship enables the move from an era of mass constraint to one of mass abundance. We believe this new era requires spacecraft with a fundamentally different design in order to fully utilize the massive rockets coming to market.

We’re a team that believes the future lies in building large, high-powered satellites that can handle multiple orbits. This is a necessity if we ever want to develop the solar system, and become a Kardashev Type II (K2) civilization.

If you are a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and you're excited about contributing to the success of a groundbreaking Series B space startup, we’d love for you to apply.

The Role

Our enterprise software team builds the digital backbone that powers K2 Space’s satellite design, manufacturing, and mission operations. We develop tools that connect engineering, production, and mission control into a seamless ecosystem — enabling our hardware to get from concept to orbit faster than ever before.

We’re seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager to lead the strategy and development of our internal platforms and developer tools. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical foundation, capable of shaping scalable, data-driven solutions in collaboration across teams. You will be comfortable operating from first principles and iterating rapidly toward platform maturity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain a forward-looking product roadmap aligned with company priorities. Balance near-term deliverables with long-term technical investments to support scalability and operational excellence.
  • Drive the development and launch of high-impact platform features. Clearly articulate problem statements, success criteria, and expected outcomes. Ensure solutions are adopted and deliver measurable value.
  • Champion technical excellence across software architecture designs and implementation, CI/CD pipelines, build/test automation, and code management systems. Ensure platform reliability, security, and performance. Identify opportunities for automation and process validation.
  • Establish key performance indicators (e.g., build duration, test failure rates, deployment frequency). Lead initiatives to improve developer productivity and system efficiency through data-informed decision-making.
  • Ensure integration across toolchains and developer workflows and promote best practices across the organization.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies to maintain clear visibility into short-term progress and long-term goals.
  • Effectively communicate platform strategy, priorities, and trade-offs to stakeholders at all levels. Translate complex technical topics into clear business value.
  • Define processes and templates for customer interactions such as intake, triage, prioritization.
  • High level understanding of modern web application architecture and deployment paradigm such as microservices, Kubernetes.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product management or equivalent technical experience, with at least 3 years focused on internal platforms or developer productivity tools.
  • 3+ years of hands-on working experience supporting physical product manufacturing.
  • Strong technical understanding of CI/CD, version control, build/test automation, and developer toolchains (e.g., Jenkins, Gitlab CI/CD or GitHub Actions, artifact repositories).
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex technical products, driving product strategy, and aligning cross-functional teams.
  • Data-driven decision maker with experience defining and measuring success metrics.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in early or growth-stage startups.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Background in computer science, engineering or a related technical discipline.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000 + equity in the company
  • Salary will be based on several factors including, but not limited to: knowledge and skills, education, and experience level
  • Comprehensive benefits package including unlimited paid time off, medical/dental/vision/ coverage, life insurance, paid parental leave, and many other perks

If you don’t meet 100% of the preferred skills and experience, we encourage you to still apply! Building a spacecraft unlike any other requires a team unlike any other and non-traditional career twists and turns are encouraged!

If you need a reasonable accommodation as part of your application for employment or interviews with us, please let us know.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
