Meet Your Future Neighbors

The Local Business team at Nextdoor is building the neighborhood engine for business growth. We connect neighbors and the local businesses around them through a cohesive ecosystem that spans free and paid experiences.

This ecosystem includes the full journey for local businesses: from joining Nextdoor and setting up a high quality page, to earning neighbor trust through Faves, Mentions, and Recommendations, to scaling their success with paid offerings like Ads and Opportunity Alerts. On the neighbor side, we own how neighbors discover, evaluate, and engage with local businesses across core surfaces like Search, Faving, Recommending, Business Pages, notifications, and feeds.

At Nextdoor, we offer a warm and inclusive work environment that embraces a hybrid employment model, blending an in office presence and work from home experience for our valued employees. The hiring team will go over these expectations with you if you are being considered for a role near one of our offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, New York, and London.

The Impact You’ll Make

As a Product Manager on Local Business, you will build and own key aspects of this ecosystem, across both neighbor and business experiences and our paid offerings. You will be a generalist PM who can move across surfaces and product stages based on where the opportunity is greatest. Potential areas of ownership include:

  • Faves and the broader organic reputation system between neighbors and local businesses
  • Neighbor-side discovery experiences such as Search, directories, and recommendation flows
  • Business Pages, onboarding, and the business admin experience
  • Paid products for SMBs like Opportunity Alerts, a neighbor <> business marketplace

We will finalize your exact scope based on your experience, strengths, and the highest priority needs of the business.

You will partner closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Operations, Product Marketing, and Comms, and you will work across consumer and SMB experiences. This role is remote in the US.

Your responsibilities will include:

If you are a systems thinker who loves data, can zoom between 0 to 1 and scale, and are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to unblock teams, this is the opportunity for you. In this role, you will:

  • Lead as the Product Owner for one or more Local Business domains across neighbor and business surfaces, from free value to paid offerings
  • Build a clear vision, strategy, and roadmap for your areas that connects neighbor value, SMB outcomes, and revenue growth into coherent flywheels
  • Design and run experiments across the funnel, using data and user insights to shape hypotheses, validate ideas quickly, and scale what works
  • Translate complex systems into simple product experiences, using systems based thinking to map loops, dependencies, and constraints across Local Business, Ads, and Opportunity Alerts
  • Ship both 0 to 1 products and meaningful improvements to existing flows, balancing speed and quality and sequencing work to learn fast while building durable foundations
  • Work deeply with Data partners to define the metrics hierarchy for your areas, build tracking specs, and instrument end to end journeys across neighbor and business surfaces
  • Partner closely with Operations to make sure launches are operationally sound and that we have the right playbooks and guardrails for scaled programs and marketplaces
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Comms on narratives and GTM, especially for SMB and local business audiences who are new to Nextdoor or to our paid products
  • Connect the dots across teams so Local Business, Ads, Opportunity Alerts, and core consumer experiences reinforce one another instead of competing
  • Communicate clearly with executives and cross functional partners, bringing structure and clarity to ambiguous spaces and driving alignment on priorities, tradeoffs, and outcomes
  • Obsess over the operational health of your products, proactively monitoring key metrics, digging into issues, and partnering with Engineering, Data, and Ops to keep the system healthy
  • Participate in in person Nextdoor events, trainings, offsites, volunteer days, and other team activities that build relationships and contribute to the culture we value
What You’ll Bring To The Team
  • 5+ years of product management experience in consumer or growth focused roles, with a track record of shipping impact in ambiguous environments
  • Demonstrated success owning both 0 to 1 product builds and scaling or optimizing existing products, ideally across marketplaces, lead generation, or multi sided systems
  • Required experience working with SMBs or local businesses, such as marketplaces for services, local commerce, or tools that help small businesses grow
  • Required experience with subscription or recurring revenue products, including designing for retention, churn reduction, and lifetime value
  • Preferred experience building or operating consumer facing products, including understanding engagement loops, retention drivers, and how to build products people use every day
  • Strong data and experimentation mindset: comfortable working with data scientists and running experiments, defining success metrics, reading experiment results, and making decisions based on data
  • Systems based thinking: ability to model complex ecosystems, identify flywheels, map out dependencies and failure modes, and design products that compound over time instead of creating one off wins
  • Experience with marketplaces, lead products, or other multi sided systems is a strong plus, especially where managing supply, demand, and pricing are important
  • Proven ability to work cross functionally with Engineering, Design, Data, Operations, Product Marketing, and Comms, and to drive alignment across teams without heavy process
  • Comfort moving between strategy and execution: you can set a long term vision, then write clear PRDs, tracking specs, and launch plans and see them through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with senior executives, frame tradeoffs, and tell a compelling story grounded in data
  • Natural ability to make things happen around you: you manage project ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies in an organized and structured way, and are willing to roll up your sleeves to unblock the team
  • Eagerness to explore and apply AI and emerging technologies to reimagine how work gets done

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
