Snapshot

The Growth & Discovery Team is the engine responsible for driving massive user and revenue expansion for Gemini across all audiences—consumers, businesses, and developers. Operating across the full user lifecycle, the team executes a comprehensive strategy that spans Acquisition (getting people in), Activation (getting them to their "aha" moment quickly), Retention (making Gemini indispensable through feature discovery and valuable use cases), and Expansion/Monetization (converting engaged users into subscribers). We accomplish this through a combination of in-product funnel optimization, global performance marketing, disciplined experimentation powered by an advanced platform, and the exploration of novel growth loops and distribution channels like Viral Sharing and Emerging Markets, ultimately building the essential systems and infrastructure to ensure scalable, efficient, and AI-powered growth for the entire Gemini ecosystem.

About Us

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The Role

In this role, you will act as a full-funnel growth and discovery architect, responsible for designing and scaling the core systems that power Gemini’s growth, discovery and revenue initiatives for user growth, monetization and strategic user segments.. This highly strategic and technical role sits at the intersection of Product, Data Science, and Marketing — driving how Gemini personalizes discovery, measures impact, and grows intelligently through AI. The leader will own the 0→1 buildout of dynamic content, experimentation, notifications, and signals infrastructure, transforming how the Discovery and Growth organizations identify value, measure outcomes, and accelerate adoption across the Gemini ecosystem.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Vision for Growth & Discovery PlatformDefine and evolve the long-term architecture for shared Growth, Discovery, and Analytics platforms — ensuring velocity, reuse, and scalability across Gemini’s AI ecosystem
  • Scale the Experimentation System Build and optimize the high-velocity A/B and multivariate testing platform, enabling teams to run and analyze experiments rapidly, safely, and at scale
  • Develop the personalization backbone that surfaces the right Gemini modes, prompts, and workflows to the right user at the right moment — driving utility, retention, and subscription conversion
  • Build AI-Powered Content Systems: Launch creative intelligence systems that generate, adapt, and personalize content automatically across surfaces (Chat, App, Web, Notifications, Email)
  • Develop the Notifications & Messaging Engine: Design a multi-channel communications layer that orchestrates timely, contextual, and high-value engagement moments — balancing UX quality with measurable impact
  • Establish the Data & Signals Foundation. Create the unified Signals Platform that ingests behavioral, contextual, and performance data to train models, drive personalization, and power discovery relevance
  • Implement the Evals Platform for Growth. Automate model and system evaluation loops to ensure consistent quality, reliability, and lift measurement for every product or model change impacting user experience
  • Drive Operational Excellence through Automation. Systematically remove manual dependencies by building growth tools, APIs, and reusable triggers that accelerate experimentation and decision-making
  • Define Cross-Functional Metrics & Measurement Frameworks: Partner with Data Science and Finance to build a full-funnel growth model — linking acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization into a single incremental impact view
  • Act as the Technical Bridge Across Functions: Serve as the connective tissue between Product, Marketing, Engineering, and AI research — translating strategic growth objectives into scalable systems and measurable business outcomes

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
