About this role

About BlackRock:
Are you interested in building innovative technology that crafts the financial markets? Do you like working at the speed of a startup, and solving some of the world’s most exciting challenges? Do you want to work with, and learn from, hands-on leaders in technology and finance?

At BlackRock, we are looking for Product Managers who like to innovate and solve sophisticated problems. We recognize that strength comes from diversity, and will embrace your outstanding skills, curiosity, and passion while giving you the opportunity to grow technically and as an individual.

We invest and protect over $11 trillion (USD) of assets and have an extraordinary responsibility to our clients all over the world. Our technology empowers millions of investors to save for retirement, pay for college, buy a home, and improve their financial well-being.

Being a technologist at BlackRock means you get the best of both worlds: working for one of the most sophisticated financial companies and being part of a software development team responsible for next generation technology and solutions.

About this Position:
At the heart of BlackRock, the largest investment management firm in the world, is the Aladdin Product team. We build next-generation technology that transforms how global investment firms account for and manage their investments.

As a Product Manager, you’ll sit at the intersection of accounting expertise and technology innovation. You’ll use your foundation in accounting principles to shape investment data, automate workflows, and solve clients’ toughest operational challenges. Partnering with engineers and colleagues across BlackRock, you’ll design solutions that simplify accounting issues and scale across markets.

This role goes beyond technical accounting — it’s about interpreting guidance, communicating it with clarity, and ensuring it translates into processes and technology that drive real client impact.

About Aladdin & Aladdin Accounting:
Aladdin is our operating platform to manage financial portfolios. It unites data, operations, and technology across the full investment lifecycle. Aladdin exists so that every financial professional can understand investment decisions and act with clarity. Aladdin combines sophisticated risk analytics with portfolio management, trading, and operations tools on a single platform to power informed decision-making.

Aladdin Accounting extends these capabilities by delivering coordinated investment accounting, performance measurement, and composite administration — all within a front-to-back platform. Aladdin Accounting is used by some of the world’s most sophisticated asset managers, insurers, and institutional investors. We deliver accounting workflows that meet both global regulatory standards and the specific needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and own the regulatory accounting product vision and roadmap, driving alignment from strategy.
  • Apply your investment accounting expertise to build product requirements, data models, and reporting logic across all asset classes.
  • Track regulatory changes across NAIC and other regimes and translate them into Aladdin Accounting product updates.
  • Act as a bridge between clients and engineers by translating regulatory requirements and business impacts into innovative product designs.
  • Clearly communicate accounting concepts and regulatory impacts to both internal collaborators and external clients.
  • Lead engaging client training sessions, webinars, and presentations, simplifying accounting requirements into clear, actionable insights.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3–6 years of experience in investment accounting, statutory reporting, or an audit background with exposure to insurers, investment firms, or complex financial instruments.
  • Solid understanding of NAIC statutory accounting principles, US GAAP, and exposure to other regulatory regimes such as BMA (Bermuda Monetary Authority) or Solvency II is a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting fundamentals including general ledger, journal entries, and financial reporting workflows.
  • A problem-solver’s mindset — not only citing rules but applying them to real-world investment activity and operational workflows.
  • Experience collaborating with product, engineering, and policy teams through software/product development lifecycles.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex accounting concepts, engage senior executives with confidence, and drive priorities forward while managing risk.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
