Summary:
Goldschmitt & Associates is seeking a Product Management SME to help Federal Student Aid translate mission and user outcomes into technically achievable product strategies, roadmaps, capabilities, backlogs, and measurable results.
The Product Management SME will serve as the technical bridge between FSA product owners and the architecture, data, integration, platform, security, engineering, and operations teams responsible for delivering the product. This role requires strong product-management expertise combined with sufficient technical depth to understand complex systems, challenge assumptions, identify dependencies, and help product owners make informed tradeoffs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mentor FSA product owners and supporting contractors on product-management practices
  • Help define product visions, desired outcomes, measurable objectives, roadmaps, and product performance measures
  • Translate mission and user needs into product capabilities and technically actionable priorities
  • Work with engineering, architecture, cloud, security, integration, and data teams to understand technical dependencies and constraints
  • Facilitate roadmap development and prioritization using business value, user outcomes, technical risk, architecture, security, operational health, and technical debt
  • Support backlog refinement and ensure backlog items remain connected to defined product outcomes
  • Help define epics, capabilities, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and nonfunctional requirements
  • Incorporate system telemetry, operational data, user feedback, analytics, and performance information into product decision-making
  • Identify opportunities to deliver capabilities incrementally rather than through large project-based releases
  • Support product lifecycle management from discovery and initial capability development through modernization, operations, and continuous improvement
  • Facilitate discussions between technical and nontechnical stakeholders and translate complex technology issues into product implications
  • Identify architecture, integration, data, security, and platform decisions requiring escalation or executive review
  • Help develop reusable product-management practices, templates, metrics, decision frameworks, and governance standards
  • Coach teams in moving from output-based measures to measures of product performance, user outcomes, service health, and mission value
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong experience managing complex digital or technology products
  • Demonstrated understanding of software architecture, APIs, cloud platforms, data environments, integrations, DevSecOps, and modern software delivery
  • Experience developing product roadmaps and managing technically complex backlogs
  • Ability to engage architects and engineers credibly while communicating technical concepts to business and executive stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and facilitation skills
  • Experience with Agile and iterative delivery methods, while understanding that product management extends beyond Agile ceremonies
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess at least 8 years of product management, technical product management, engineering/product delivery, systems analysis, or related technology experience
  • Possess the ability to pass a 6C Public Trust investigation, including US citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in federal or regulated technology environments
  • Experience with financial services, lending, servicing, data platforms, or large-scale digital services
  • Experience with enterprise platforms or products spanning multiple systems and organizational boundaries

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
