Product Engineer - React Native, Web & Mobile

Mix helps curious people discover, save, and share the best of the web through personalized, ad-free feeds across web and mobile.

We’re looking for a mid-to-senior product-minded engineer to build polished user experiences across React Native, web, iOS, and Android. You’ll primarily develop new mobile features in React Native while helping maintain and evolve our existing native iOS and Android applications.

You should be strong in modern React and React Native development, comfortable shipping across platforms, and able to work closely with a small, agile team to turn user feedback and rough product ideas into fast, intuitive, high-quality experiences.

Strong product instincts, attention to UX detail, a good design sense, and a bias toward shipping are essential. You should also be comfortable working across the stack when needed, including APIs, native integrations, debugging, and existing Swift/Kotlin code.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong product-minded engineering skills with a track record of shipping polished consumer-facing experiences.

  • Solid UI/UX judgment and an eye for interaction design, responsiveness, and visual polish.

  • Strong React Native, TypeScript, and React experience building production mobile applications for both iOS and Android.

  • Strong modern web development experience with React, Next.js, Redux Toolkit/RTK Query or SWR, and Tailwind CSS.

  • Experience building and debugging React Native applications on real iOS and Android devices.

  • Experience integrating native device capabilities and platform APIs from React Native, including deep links, push notifications, authentication, sharing, media, and app lifecycle behavior.

  • Working knowledge of native iOS development with Swift, Xcode, Swift Package Manager, UIKit, and iOS app/extension targets.

  • Working knowledge of native Android development with Kotlin, Android Studio, Gradle, AndroidX, and the Android application lifecycle.

  • Comfortable reading, debugging, and making targeted changes to existing Swift and Kotlin codebases while migrating or building new product functionality in React Native.

  • Experience integrating APIs, analytics, crash reporting, and media-heavy user interfaces.

  • Able to debug real-device issues involving gestures, WebViews, video playback, navigation, performance, memory, responsive layouts, and differences between iOS and Android.

  • Experience with modern AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude, Cursor, Antigravity, or similar tools.

  • Collaborates closely with product and design and can turn rough requirements into shippable, measurable product improvements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience migrating or incrementally modernizing native iOS/Android applications with React Native.

  • Experience building React Native native modules, bridging native SDKs, or working with TurboModules, Fabric, or other parts of the React Native native layer.

  • Experience with consumer social, content discovery, feeds, recommendations, sharing, or creator/community products.

  • Familiarity with Firebase, Segment, Branch, Sentry, Crashlytics, Airbrake, or similar analytics and observability tools.

  • Familiarity with common React Native libraries and patterns for navigation, server state, local persistence, media, gestures, and animation.

  • Experience with native networking and media libraries such as Retrofit/OkHttp/Moshi, Alamofire, Kingfisher, Glide/Coil, or similar tools.

  • Strong eye for interaction details including gestures, transitions, animations, loading states, empty states, accessibility, and device-specific polish.

  • App Store and Play Store release experience, including signing, provisioning, certificates, builds, and release workflows.

  • Experience with Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, Docker, or similar CI/CD and production deployment tooling.

  • Comfortable improving older native codebases without requiring a full rewrite before shipping meaningful product improvements.

  • Writes maintainable code and uses appropriate testing and quality tooling, such as React Native Testing Library, Jest, Cypress, XCTest, JUnit/Mockito/Espresso, linting, type checking, and formatting.

Benefits

We're offering a competitive salary of $140,000–$190,000 (based on your location, experience, and skills) for this full-time role. You'll work fully remote from anywhere in the U.S. on Pacific or Mountain time. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, meaningful equity, a 401(k), and unlimited PTO.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
