Company Overview

Valimail is a fast growing, venture funded startup and the leader in Email Authentication as a Service. Here is your chance to get in on the ground floor at an important technology innovator and to help build a major business service category. We have built a revolutionary platform on top of open standards — DMARC, DKIM, and SPF — for the first time it makes it possible for any organization to protect itself against email impersonation. Valimail pioneered the notion of automated email authentication, with innovative components like our DNS-based Authenticator (including our patented Instant SPF). We’re committed to building a more trusted email ecosystem.

Frequently cited statistics show that women and underrepresented classes will only apply to roles if they feel they meet 100% of the qualifications. At Valimail, we encourage you to break through that statistic. Roles evolve over time, especially with innovation, and you may be just the person we need in the future. NO ONE ever meets 100% of the qualifications. We hope you're open to learning new skills in order to grow with us. Make our team, your team!

Position Overview

Valimail is looking for a Product Designer who is user-centered and is excited to turn complex security concepts into easy, intuitive experiences. You will report directly to the VP of product and collaborate closely with our Senior Product Designer and cross-functional partners to shape how users interact with Valimail’s platform. This role is ideal for someone who’s eager to grow their craft, expand their product thinking, and help make email authentication accessible to everyone. If you’re passionate about simplifying complexity and designing with impact, we want to hear from you!

We will consider applications on a rolling basis until the role is filled.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own the design of smaller end-to-end product features within Valimail’s Monitor, Enforce, and Amplify products.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, product support, marketing, and other teams to understand user and business needs.
  • Use Figma daily to create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals that bring ideas to life.
  • Participate in design reviews with design, product, engineering, and product support teams to validate design choices and gather feedback.
  • Take part in user research to deepen understanding of customers and incorporate findings into your designs.
  • Apply fundamentals of good UI and common UX patterns while effectively using and contributing to Valimail’s design system.
  • Collaborate remotely with team members across time zones, using asynchronous communication and clear documentation to keep projects moving forward.

About You

  • 2-4 years of internship or professional experience in product design.
  • A portfolio that showcases your design process, decision-making, visual craft, and user-centered thinking.
  • Proficiency with Figma and FigJam for design, prototyping, mapping, and ideation. Familiarity with tools like Jira and Slack for collaborating with product and engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in order to collaborate with stakeholders and clearly articulate design rationale.
  • A growth mindset and comfort working remotely. You are self motivated, a proactive communicator, and adaptable in distributed team environments.
  • A clear understanding of user-centered design processes and how to apply them in an agile product development context.
  • Demonstrated success working with product leadership, development managers, and cross-functional teams in a highly collaborative environment.

Bonus Points

  • Experience designing for B2B SaaS products.
  • Has worked in fast-paced growth environments.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, email, or DNS concepts.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
