We are Route

Buying stuff online can get messy once you hit that “order” button. Managing dozens carrier tracking links, dealing with lost or damaged packages, and resolving issues with customer support can feel like a wild goose chase. That’s why we created the Route  — to make the post-purchase experience for consumers like you, and the brands you love, as seamless as possible.

Route is on a mission to connect the world’s commerce. Through our network of millions of Route App users and thousands of merchants, we’re making it easier than ever for consumers to track, insure, and discover their favorite products in one place — which connects the world’s best direct-to-consumer brands to happy, repeat customers.

Since Route launched in 2018, we’ve been on a journey to build innovative products that empower our customers, all while fostering a people-first, values-driven company culture. We’re looking for talented people across the ecommerce space to join us on the next steps of this adventure.

Don’t just take our word for it! Discover what life at Route has to offer.

The team

The Design team plays a big role in shaping not only how Route products look and feel, but also how the team grows together. We focus on building meaningful, user-facing experiences that reach millions of shoppers and top-tier brands, and we do it in a collaborative, ownership-driven way. Design always has a seat at the table, and we lean on each other to push great ideas forward.

The opportunity

Route is looking for a Sr. Product Designer who enjoys working at the intersection of product, brand, and storytelling. You’ll have the opportunity to partner closely with our Head of Design to shape Route’s visual identity across products, marketing surfaces, pitch decks, and prototypes. Your work might range from creating thoughtful A/B test variants to preparing high-fidelity mocks that support our sales team.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of room for impact. You’ll help elevate the look, feel, and clarity of every Route touchpoint while contributing to the foundation of our growing design team. We’re excited about designers who care about craft, bring fresh perspectives, and want to grow alongside a collaborative team where every voice matters.

What you’ll do

  • Craft beautiful, merchant- and shopper-facing UI for Route products, including shipping protection, branded tracking, and returns flows
  • Elevate the polish of our product experiments, sales prototypes, and stakeholder-facing decks
  • Create visually compelling design systems and components that scale across surfaces and teams
  • Help establish and maintain brand-aligned visuals across Route’s products and marketing
  • Ensure our experiences are accessible, inclusive, and delightfully human
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teammates (Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing) to bring features to life, quickly and with care
  • Participate in design reviews, QA processes, and experimentation loops
  • Occasionally pitch in on light motion, illustrations, or visual storytelling for marketing materials or investor decks

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of experience designing polished, user-friendly digital products
  • A strong portfolio showcasing visual design excellence across UI, brand, and systems with a track record of shipping successful products
  • Fluency in Figma, including components, variables, design tokens, and prototyping
  • A sharp eye for typography, hierarchy, spacing, and layout
  • Experience working within or building out a design system
  • Ability to operate autonomously, prioritize high-impact work, and collaborate in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear, thoughtful communicator who enjoys cross-functional collaboration
  • Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field

Bonus Skills

  • Motion design or prototyping experience (e.g., After Effects, Principle, Framer)
  • Experience supporting sales enablement (e.g., decks, demos, concept mocks)
  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, or shopping platforms like Shopify
  • Experience with illustration or visual storytelling

Equal opportunity for all

Route is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We embrace diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

Total Rewards

We know our team works best when everyone feels happy, healthy, and supported. We offer to pay 95% - 100% of your health insurance premiums for you and your family, remote or hybrid work arrangements, unlimited PTO, 401k matching, formalized growth opportunities, learning & development, DEI programs & events, and so much more.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
