About MileIQ:

Design is core to MileIQ’s DNA. We were founded by leaders from IDEO and we continue to elevate customer-obsession and creative risk-taking. Our mission is to unlock the full value of every mile and we are doing that by not just tracking mileage; but by reimagining entire workflows, making them effortless and delightful. As a company of owners passionate about delivering exceptional customer value, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible. We're driven by our values—ownership, thinking like drivers, and repeatedly taking chances, to name a few. We believe design can change the world, and at MileIQ, you'll have the opportunity to prove it.

As a Product Designer on the Driver and Admin team at MileIQ, you will reimagine how automation and AI can make mileage management delightful our drivers and admins. You will work on the team that creates the interfaces and experiences drivers and admins use to track, report, and review mileage. You will create high-craft, intuitive, and cohesive experiences, informed through user research and a deep understanding of customer problems. You will be a crucial voice in shaping our product strategy and leveraging design to achieve quantifiable business results. Ultimately, you will be a critical reason we achieve our mission of unlocking the full value of every mile driven.

If elegant solutions to complex problems, high-craft, and broad impact excite you, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Act like an owner: Own the end-to-end design strategy and execution for our web and mobile platforms. Designers at MileIQ are multi-disciplinary: diagramming, wireframing, prototyping, and conducting research. All of this is in service of creating elegant experiences that delight our customers and drive business growth.
  • Think like a driver: Run user research and leverage quantitative data to inform design decisions and identify opportunities for meaningful innovation. Champion a culture of design thinking within the organization, advocating for customer needs and promoting design as a strategic differentiator.
  • Embrace Different Perspectives: Be a leader in your cross-functional pod by proactively collaborating with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and other functions to shape the product roadmap and ensure customer-insights are integrated into every stage of development. Come with your informed opinion and curiosity to test it with others.
  • Take chances repeatedly: We value high craft. You'll have the freedom and support to create truly delightful and intuitive customer experiences, sweating the details, prototyping, and testing new features and user flows, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and iterating based on customer feedback and data.

What You’ll Need:

  • 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design with an emphasis on web dashboards and native mobile apps. We use Figma, so experience with that tool is required.
  • Excellence in craft, creating holistic user flows, and data-driven design.
  • Experience with user research best practices and desire to own research for your area of the product.
  • A proactive collaboration style that brings together functions across the company.
  • A strong understanding of user-centered design principles, methodologies, and accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
  • A growth mindset, a passion for learning, and a desire to push the boundaries of design in the age of AI.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Experience creating elegant solutions to complex technical problems while working in an ambiguous environment.
  • Frameworks and exercises to help teams rapidly go from problem to solution.
  • A deep understanding of standard and emerging design trends, technologies, and interaction patterns, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
  • A relentless pursuit of high craft and attention to detail in both UX and UI, with a keen eye for visual aesthetics and user experience.
  • A strong understanding of data analytics and a data-driven approach to design.
  • A passion for continuous learning and a desire to stay at the forefront of the design field.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
