Your Role at MediaLab
Genius is seeking a remote Product Designer for a 6-month contract (with the possibility of extension) to help us build the ultimate music companion. Genius empowers fans to collaboratively transcribe lyrics and write annotations that live on Genius.com and everywhere people experience music.
As a Product Designer at Genius, you’ll play a key role in shaping both our website and mobile apps. You’ll leverage our design system to redesign core features for greater consistency across the platform, while also creating new functionality that serves our millions of daily active users. This is an exciting opportunity to design the next generation of Genius product features and have a direct impact on how fans engage with music worldwide.
What You’ll Do
- Understand the needs of our highly engaged community, large viewership, and Verified artists to design user interfaces and experiences that delight every group, empower contributors to share music knowledge, and enable artists to reach their fans.
- Support design projects across the entire product development lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Product Designer, Product Manager, Engineering, and other stakeholders to ship features that balance design quality with technical and business tradeoffs.
- Utilize and expand upon our existing design system.
- Deliver clean, well-documented design files for seamless handoff to the engineering team.
- Integrate ads into the product thoughtfully and intentionally, striking the right balance between revenue generation and user experience.
What We’re Searching For
- 3+ years of product design experience
- Strong portfolio showcasing design expertise and measurable impact
- Expertise in Figma, including libraries, variables, modes, auto-layout, and prototyping
- Strong understanding of web and native mobile interactivity, along with UI/UX fundamentals such as information architecture, hierarchy, and layout
- Proven ability to influence product strategy and drive business impact through thoughtful design
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team
- Deep knowledge of, and interest in, music, digital media, social media, and technology
- Experience with digital advertising is a plus
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS fundamentals is a plus
