ABOUT RETELL AI

Retell AI is using first-principles thinking to reimagine the call center with cutting-edge voice AI. Thousands of companies now use Retell’s AI voice agents to handle sales, support, and logistics calls that once required large teams of human agents. Backed by Y Combinator, Alt Capital, and other leading investors, we’ve scaled to $80M in ARR with a team of 50, up from $5M at the start of 2025, and are now valued at over $1.5B.

Our vision for 2026 is to build a modern CX platform where entire contact centers are powered by AI. Instead of basic automation that needs constant human tuning, we’re creating intelligent AI “workers” that act as frontline agents, QA analysts, and managers, continuously executing, monitoring, and improving every customer interaction.

We’re growing fast and looking for ambitious builders who want to tackle hard technical problems, move quickly, and have a real impact on one of the fastest-growing voice AI companies in the world.

Let’s build the future together.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Let’s build a beautiful product for Retell.

Retell is building infrastructure and tools that power real-time AI voice agents used by fast-growing companies. We care deeply about making complex, technical workflows feel clear, intuitive, and thoughtfully designed.

As a Product Designer Intern at Retell, you’ll work closely with our designer, engineers, and founders to bring product ideas to life. You’ll take ownership of scoped design projects, moving from early explorations and prototypes to polished experiences that reach real customers.

This is a hands-on opportunity to develop your product thinking, strengthen your visual craft, and learn how great design gets shipped, with guidance and feedback from the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design user flows and interfaces for building, testing, and managing AI voice agents, making complex interactions easier to understand and navigate.

  • Take scoped projects from initial concepts and wireframes to polished designs, incorporating feedback along the way.

  • Create interactive prototypes in Figma to communicate ideas, explore alternatives, and refine interactions.

  • Work side-by-side with engineers to ship features, clarify edge cases, and ensure the finished experience reflects the design.

  • Identify UX friction and visual inconsistencies, and propose thoughtful, practical improvements.

  • Contribute reusable components, patterns, and documentation to Retell’s design system.

  • Hold a high bar for craft, paying attention to typography, spacing, hierarchy, interaction states, and consistency.

YOU MIGHT THRIVE IF
  • You’re a current student or recent graduate in design, HCI, or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience.

  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates product thinking, visual craft, and clear design decisions. Class projects, personal projects, and previous internship work all count.

  • You’re comfortable using Figma to create interfaces, reusable components, and interactive prototypes.

  • You have a strong sense of usability, hierarchy, and visual clarity.

  • You’re detail-oriented and care deeply about polish and consistency.

  • You can explain your decisions, welcome feedback, and iterate thoughtfully.

  • You take initiative, ask good questions, and feel comfortable working through ambiguity.

  • You’re excited about AI and enjoy collaborating closely with designers, engineers, and founders.

Why Retell?
  • Work directly with the founders and product team.

  • Get a front-row seat to how one of the fastest-growing AI infrastructure startups builds products.

  • Own meaningful projects from day one, not busy work.

  • Learn how world-class AI products are launched, documented, and continuously improved.

  • See your work impact thousands of developers and enterprise customers.

If you love building systems, making products easier to use, and want to accelerate your career in product, we’d love to meet you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
