We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced individual to provide legal research support to our technology team. Initial work would include a 50-state survey on service of process rules and requirements. This role requires strong research and analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize complex legal information into clear, actionable summaries.
Key ResponsibilitiesResearch Analysis and Recommendations- Conduct thorough research on service of process statutes, rules, and procedures for all 50 states and relevant federal jurisdictions
- Analyze state-specific requirements and create guidance for technology team around acceptable methods of service, timing requirements, and procedural variations
- Track updates to service of process rules and maintain current knowledge of changes in state laws
- Research case law interpreting service of process requirements when statutes are unclear or ambiguous and provide clear recommendations for how to proceed
- Review and compare client requirements with case law to identify misalignment
- Identify and document special service requirements for specific types of cases
- Create comprehensive state-by-state comparison charts and reference materials
- Prepare detailed memoranda summarizing service of process requirements for each jurisdiction
- Maintain organized research files and documentation for easy reference and updates
- Draft clear, concise summaries of complex legal requirements for review
- Provide proactive updates to the company when service of process rules change
- Verify accuracy of all research through multiple authoritative sources
- Cross-reference state rules with local court requirements and case law where applicable
- Ensure all research materials reflect current law and recent amendments
- Flag jurisdictions with unique or particularly complex service requirements
- Collaborate with technology team to influence the development roadmap
- Minimum 3-5 years of legal experience with emphasis on legal research
- Demonstrated experience conducting legal research using various databases and resources
- Prior experience with service of process or civil procedure preferred
- Experience with multi-jurisdictional legal research strongly preferred
- Proficiency with legal research platforms (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law and Statescape)
- Familiarity with Google Sheets and Notion
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in legal research
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple research projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational skills with ability to maintain detailed records and databases
- Knowledge of federal service of process requirements under Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and state service of process requirements
- Previous experience creating legal research databases or reference materials

Compensation:
- $60,000 - $80,000 salary range based on experience and location
