The Associate Producer writes and manages content for news broadcasts, supports line producers, and engages in online and social media activities.
ROLE: Daily production of a quality news product as defined by the FOX 5/KUSI brands. Accuracy and excellence in production techniques and writing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Write and support line producers for assigned newscasts. Fill-in produce as needed.
- Manage and write graphics for assigned stories and update them as needed.
- Research, confirm, and update local, state, national and international stories through multiple sources including websites, FOX & Nexstar services, wires, and social media.
- Help determine placement of stories in the newscast and advise producer on story format changes.
- Help plan future segments, topics, guests, and story ideas.
- Post links to the Fox 5/KUSI website.
- Assist assignment desk in making calls to confirm story details.
- Produce or assist with streaming content and non‑broadcast news efforts
- Maintain social media presence.
- Additional duties as necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field is desired.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a working newsroom either as a writer or production assistant.
REQUIREMENTS/JOB SKILLS:
- Must be able to work well under extreme pressure and deadlines
- Must have solid news judgment
- Must be a consistent and accurate writer
- Must interact positively and productively with others and take feedback
- Must have strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented
- Must be technically nimble to take advantage of newsroom resources
- Must be flexible with schedule and fill-in different shifts, weekends, holidays as needed
- Comp starting at $22+ hr commensurate with experience and skill level
