The Opportunity:

Avantor is seeking a Procurement Manager to be responsible for the development and implementation of purchasing/procurement/sourcing policies and administration of all purchasing activities. Purchasing activities will include: selecting sources of supply, approving purchase orders, managing relationships with suppliers, and negotiating terms of contracts. 

This role will be a full-time position that can be based out of our Carpinteria, CA or Bakersfield, CA offices. Must have ability to travel up to 20% (as needed) between these offices. 

As part of the Global Planning Team, the Procurement Manager will have the opportunity to oversee the operational procurement for our vendors and manage a large team within a complex department.

What we're looking for:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, chemical/technical or related field. 
  • Experience: 
  • 8+ Years of related Supply Chain experience; 3 years leadership experience. 
  • Contract Negotiation experience. 
  • Global Supply Chain, Cost Reduction and Supply Chain Trouble shooting/Problem Solving experience desired. 
  • Experience in a regulated/complex chemical manufacturing environment preferred. 
  • Certification(s): APICS/CPIM certification desirable. 
  • Additional Qualifications: 
  • Ability to be a servant leader. 
  • Understanding of forecast and replenishment theory. 
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS office suite (Excel, Access, Word). 
  • Expert knowledge and practical use of Forecasting and Inventory Planning tools; i.e. Logility, SAP, or equivalent.

  • Oversee team that is accountable for the procurement of spend across the region. 
  • Assist in negotiating terms and contracts with suppliers along with sourcing business partners.
  • Provide exceptional service and communication, together with improving efficiency and transparency. 
  • Lead and manage a high performing team to support the delivery of exceptional service to our customers. 
  • Monitor team performance and conduct a regular review of and appraisals of goals set. 
  • Work with local management and central teams, support the identification of best practice and new processes across the region. 
  • Manage the order placement and delivery of regional warehouse operations and direct to customers. 
  • Drive efficiency gains in the operational processes. 
  • Working with Customer Services, Suppliers, Demand and the Global teams, identify and implement process improvements to improve costs and OTIF performance. 
  • In conjunction with various local and central teams, define special services and, where needed, support development activities with the procurement development, inventory and operations team. 
  • Drive best practice and standardization. 
  • Ensure purchase order confirmation dates are maintained by regular and effective expediting by the team members. 
  • Ensure delivery queries and supplier issues are managed promptly and communicated effectively. 
  • Ensure invoice price and quantity differences are managed effectively. 
  • Ensure that the team works in accordance with the approved company operating policies, procedures, practices and methods. 
  • Manage and professionally develop team members.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$112,400.00 - $187,400.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
