ClassDojo's goal is to accelerate humanity’s progress, by giving every child on Earth an education they love.

We started by building a network that connects teachers, children, and families. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-8 teachers, children, and families, globally. They use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, messages, and activities. It is actively used at an unprecedented scale: in over 95% of US schools, reaching ~51 million children in ~180 countries, with a team of just ~200 people [1]). We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.

We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too..

What you’ll do:

You’ll be the lead privacy counsel for ClassDojo, responsible for ensuring we remain the most trusted platform for children’s data. You’ll partner across legal, product, engineering, and operations to advise on privacy laws, policies, and implementation.

You will:
  • Counsel product and engineering teams on privacy compliance and design decisions

  • Lead updates to our privacy policies and notices globally

  • Support global expansion and new product launches with privacy assessments and DPIAs.

  • Track and interpret emerging privacy laws affecting kids’ and family tech

  • Lead compliance implementation across cross functional teams.

  • Partner with regulators and external counsel as needed.

You’re a match if you:
  • Are passionate about privacy and children’s data protection.

  • Have 7+ years of experience advising on privacy/data protection in a technology context.

  • Hold a JD (or equivalent) and are admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction.

  • Excel at making complex legal concepts clear and actionable.

  • Skilled at driving cross-functional projects.

  • Thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
